I want to play Samurai Showdown 5. Need help. I don't plan on buying more than 1 or 2 imports, so I don't want to spend a bunch of money.

Does anyone use this method? ------>(Slide Card/Swap Magic v3.3 Combo) Does it work? And will it damage my PS2 over time?

See link as well.

I use a flip-top cover to play imports, works like a charm everytime, very easy to install yourself & won't damage your PS2 if you use it properly. You can get a flip-top with swap magic discs for about $40-$50 I think (make sure you get swap magic v3.3 - the latest ones).

slide cards I think will damage the motor on your disc tray over time.

I would go for the flip-top if I were you.

Thanks,

Upon searching the web, I am finding this is the best scenario without modding.
The cheapest I've found them is here:

The swap magic is great if you have a fliptop cover. It's actually probably the best route for the new PStwo (slim model)

Bump.
I'm looking at bypassing the game region for '94 Rebout solely.
I know it's not the best-o-reasons, but, unfortunatley, I'm an addict and had to have the game.

Google turned up two main ways of region bypass without a chip mod.
The Magic Slide w/swap magic disks.
And the Flip Top w/swap magic disks.

I have to say the Flip Top looks to be the better looking option--and I'd only have to mess with the system shell as opposed to the innards.

While the Magic Slide sounds more than damaging to the system. And from what people have written about it, I don't want to touch it with an eleven foot pole.

Any other opinions on this Flip Top option as to it's success?

For the record, kernow has already lambasted me for wanting to play ports and telling me for the money I've spent I could have gotten a cab. But I do enjoy those ASTs. (The cab will come eventually.)

I went with the FlipTop and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with it. I've have had my PS2 since launch, and haven't had any problems, even with the newly added FlipTop. This is where I got mine: http://www.customps2.com/site/pages/cat_ps2ft.html

Since I have an older PS2, I had to go with the Black cover. I also have the latest swap disk version 3.3. Haven't had any problems playing any imports either. I don't own any newly released imports, but I'm assuming the latest version swap disk will support all imports.

Cool. So it's just pretty easy to take off the shell and replace the guts into a new one then?
My PS2 is one of the 5k models, right before the slims came out with the network adator stuck on the back. So the clear-blue shell looks pretty neat.

Is the flip-top itself pretty stable, or does it seem flimsy?

You just replace the top half of the shell, so there's no need to mess around with the internals of the system.

I'm with Dr. Emmett Brown. If you're gonna build a time machine,
you may as well give it some style and put it in a Delorian.
Didn't even make the connection when I saw those.

But is the plastic used in these shells the same textured stuff that the PS2 has, or are they just smooth as a baby's arse? If they're smooth, they would look GHEY. :crying:
