What's the deal with homebrew games? I sure there die-hards out there think they are evil, but I'm open-minded. With the official production of new Neo games ended, I'd be interested in some "homebrew creations." I saw some Puzzle Bobble knock-off, but I'm more interested in shooters and platformers. If anyone has a link, let me know.

Jeff,

I am really still excited about a completed release of your Poker Night. The Neo needs some good poker, blackjack, slots, etc.

Would definately be plenty out there to buy'em from ya. I know I'd be first in line.. Heck 1st thing you finish, I'll be camping out for... :D

If I want to help with music, can you convert .wav files for use with your coding?

AMEN to that...
I'm very excited about the homebrew age.
There's no real difference between freelance and established imo.
Sure developing skill is a factor but over time, skill is something that usually improves.

I've been working on freeing up my schedule so that I can continue my work on homebrew games... I have a couple more games started for my Poker Night game that I want to make into a handful of casino games. Here is a list of items started:

Video Poker -- in the demo
Slots -- started, but not ready for prime time
Blackjack -- logic complete -- gfx, pretty rough at the moment

Here are a couple other options I want to add to the game:

Roulette
Texas Hold-em -- some game logic already started.

Basically this will be like other casino games. You will start with a bankroll and can move around the different game tables.

As for using .WAV files -- I can only use them for samples, not FM music. However, I guess it's possible to play music samples :) In the past, I've converted some MP3s into WAV, then used my tools to convert the WAV to the proper ADPCM and tested the music (sample), which sounded pretty decent. I was having a problem with the audio cutting out after about 20 seconds, but that was with a hacked M1 rom from another game (patched to work with my V1 data). Now that we have our own sound driver, I may just test this out again...

The NoePac game looks great. I'm interested. How about games like Ghouls and Ghosts or Splatterhouse?

I've got money for homebrew games as well. I'm sure you could at least be paid minimum wage for your time by the time your done. You could be like an indian programer!

Did you see that Last Hope thread? Where was the LUV? I sure hope Tim didn't allow the "nay sayers" to discourage him. His game looks really nice now,can you imagine if he keeps it up? He could revive the scene to some degree. I just hope he comes out with a CRAPS Academy Sim. I believe it was on the Amiga. I loved that PRG!!!

I think the love died right when the $700+ price was announced.

BB,

They didnt decide to scrap that project did they? I was very interested (Although I will admit the $700 did put me off at first). Once it was explained about production costs and all of the time and effort, it really didnt seem to be too much to ask ... especially if that opens the doors to more projects down the road.

I'm all for Homebrew games, only thing I am really looking for on NGH is a game that last a long time to beat like a platformer/RPG that takes you more than 1 day to finish, at least 1 week. In english of course.

That Bluetengel shmup looks like it could be quite promising. Any further info or a download available, please?

Those Chaos and Supremacy demos got me thinking ... I bet Amiga demo scene coders could do all sort of interesting things with the Neo hardware given the proper motivation.

I'm not sure but I have no reason to believe he scrapped it.
