I just picked up a Simpsons PCB and it comes up with two bad somethings on bootup and just keeps restarting to the ROM check over and over.

Wondering if this is an easy fix and/or if someone here would be able to repair my PCB for a fee.

Here's what I get:

Please let me know what you think guys as I'd really love to play it.

I don't know anything about the Simpsons PCB but try checking all the roms/eproms to make sure they are seated properly in their sockets. Just push down on all of them to see if they go in a little further.

If it's just bad eproms, you should be able to fix it easily using the rom dump (burn new eproms).

Jeff,

I'll try pushing down on all the ROMS. I have a feeling it might be something else though, there appears to be a spot on the board that's been worked on before.

Also, I don't have any way to burn new eproms as I don't have the proper equipment.

If anyone would like to see pics of the actual PCB I can take them. For someone who know this hardware it might be an easy fix, I'd be willing to ship the board out to get the work done and of course pay any person kind enough to get it working again.

You could also try pulling the "bad" chips and reseating them to see if that might help. I have a DK mini that was giving me graphics problems. While testing a friends board set in my cabinet I had to plug and unplug a ton of connectors and now the problem seems to be gone. Sometimes just reseating stuff works. Good luck! I have a Simpsons PCB myself. Just out of curiousity, did you buy this pcb knowing that it had this error or was it untested? When I bought mine I bought it knowing that player 2 wouldn't coin up, but since it's usually just me playing it, I figured it didn't matter and I got it for a better price.

I bought the board as untested.

As for reseating the chips. How will I know which one need to be reseated? Looking at the list of stuff that comes up on bootup I don't think there are than many socketed on the board.

Thanks for the PDF manual.

That's what I'm saying though, if there are only 4 or 5 socketed chips than what is all the other stuff being checked?

Find the chips marked 6G and 7G on the PCB and replace them. I looked in the PDF and they seem to be an eprom and the sram next to it.

The other stuff would be some of the game's ram. I looked at my Simpsons PCB and 6G is a socketed chip locted all by itself near the middle-right area of the PCB. Directly to the left of that is the chip 7G. What kind of work was done there? If you post a picture, I or someone might be able to tell you something more.

Here's a pic of the PCB.

As you can see metal rectangle with black marker colored around it has been replaced or worked on. It no longer sits flush to the PCB like the other one on the board.

I know nothing about PCB repair, would someone here be able to fix this problem for a fee? I hope so as I'd really like to play it.
