Why is the control in Ridge Racer DS broken?

Seriously, in some of the later tracks, the poor handling and atrocious collision detection make this game impossible. I want to like the game, it is a decent title overall, but they could have tweaked the car handling a bit. Also, crashing into other cars fucks you over no matter if they are in front or behind you. If you hit another car, you are pretty much fucked.

Other than that, it's a great game. Decent graphics (for the DS), great music, classic tracks..

Sounds like they thought the collision detection needed to be like the first RR game. That was stoopid on their part.

This is why I am hesitant to pick up a DS and RR DS. If I want to see unfair collision detection I would just play the first RR game.

a direct hit from the back will increase your speed. it happens to me all the time.

I'm not sure about being hit from the sides while the other car is a little behind. that's because I play in first person view.

here is what to do in later stages (when your cars become fast and the turns become harder)

- for easy turns, simply turn without braking

- for sharper turns (usually four or five sharp turns followed rapidly by each others), you "have to" break no matter how good your car's handling is. keep pressing the acceleration button while braking.. otherwise, your car will drift.

- for or [L] shaped turns, use powerslides.

other tips:

- I usually use a car with excellent acceleration and poor drifting.

- you WILL need to learn the three turn methods I mentioned above. if you're familiar with Rage Racer, then you must know that already.

- here is how I power slide: 1) turn left/right and hold that direction 2) unpress the acceleration for half a second and repress it again 3) tab the other direction to stop the car from drifting

- in the last few races, you will need to finish the race without being hit. and each race is 6 laps.

personally, I liked this game more than Type 4 and RRV.

No offense, but I can't see how anyone could like RRDS more than Type 4. :emb:

I'm starting to get into my RRDS and for me its damn near perfect as I love the first 2 RR games on the PSX.

And any game is better than RR:type 4,I would rather play Cruisin' USA on the N64 than that POS.How can anyone like a game where you have to actually lose races to unlock all the cars?I'm not bragging but I went through RR:T4 without losing a race(using all the combinations of teams and cars)and completed it with about 40+ cars unlocked. Then after tinkering about did I find that you have to actually lose races to unlock the rest.

I suppose its ok for those who are rubbish at driving games and then they can gradually unlock all the cars but for me(and my RR lovin' friends)it was a piss poor game that was too full of gimmicks to try and bolster the game.

Ok so the DS version isnt the hardest driving game in the world but its just so much damn fun.

and I can't see why wouldn't someone do so if he/she liked Ridge Racer Revolution and Rage Racer :glee:

Type 4 was good and all, but it was really different from the previous games (the control, the atmosphere, track designs ..... etc). I personally prefer the old-school RR games. doesn't mean I don't like Type 4 too.

(and I'm one of the very few who liked RRV)
