Well, um not much of choice here, only got two MVS/AES releases in 2004.

So King of Figthers 2003 or Samurai Shodown 5 Special?

I personally went for SS5S.

Note: I know Metal Slug 5 was released on the AES in Feb. 2004, but its MVS release was in Dec. 2003, so it counts as a 2003 game. Please don't hassle me :p

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I prefer KOF 2003 to SS5S - I'm not much of a competition-level KOF player, so I enjoyed the new system and new characters. And frankly, I thought it was ridiculous for Paymore to rehash SS5 for the final Neo release. My vote goes for 03.

KOF 2003.

Really liked that one, great graphics etc etc.

IMO SSVS was pretty shocking for a 2004 game.

I guess I'm wrong, but I can't help thinking KOF '03 came out in '03. We had the loke test here at the very beginning of December, and wasn't it already out and being played in Japan around then? The master list says middle of March, but it couldn't have been a full 3 months after the US loke test, could it...? My memory is worthless.

I guess I'd vote for KOF '03 also. There are some things I prefer in SS5 over SS5S (story, some backgrounds), so that's out. Fatalities have never been a big thing for me and I don't like playing as bosses in any game (except Geese and Krauser, and maybe Mr. Big), so that's no draw.

KOF was a lot of big chances on new stuff; some which woked, some which worked less. But the game has guts, and I do like the new characters. If they tone down Duo in the next one, he has the potential to be a really fun, great character.

I'm with STK on this one: I thought that 2K3 came out in December of 03 with a home release about Feb/March. Hmmmm....

But to answer the question, I really dug 2K3. The tagging was a nice addition and Ash was an interesting protagonist with a storyline I cant wait to be continued.

KOF 2003 for me. I enjoy both games but KOF was more entertaining for me (I've never been a big fan of SS to be honest).

I really like both, but the increased gameplay speed in KoF 2003 makes it worth playing alongside '02. Probably my favorite 2P vs. fighter right now.

I'm more of a SS guy than KOF, but I think 2003 was a better game. Like earlier stated, it brought some new stuff to the table, some that worked, some that didn't, but at least they tried something new, and that's "extra cool" to me.

KOF03 was definitely a '04 release. The loke tests might have been in December '03, but I didn't see it for sale or in any cabs until March '04. I am speaking stateside, though, maybe the land of the rising sun got it in december '03?

Whatever, its an '04 release in my book :p

KOF 2003 all the way!!

The slow down effect when you hit an opponent in the SS serie has completly destroyed the gameplay IMHO!!

Siding a bit with some others I thought more effort was put into making a distinct game with KoF 2003. Despite the complaints I have about it I still played it over SSVS back in Japan... although SSV I very much liked.

I voted KOF 2003. Not the best KOF but a great game nonetheless.

Never had a chance to play SSVS, but given that I really enjoyed the regular SSV I'd have to say that this one takes the crown as Neo game of 2004.

Typical. Why don't you tell us what's your favorite movie you haven't seen, or your favorite song you've never heard?

I'm an MVS gamer and as you can probably tell, SSVS isn't exactly a common game.
Given that I've played (and own) SSV and KOF2k3, it's safe to say that SSVS would likely be a better game as far as my opinion is concerned.

Some of us don't bother with roms you know.
