If I'm reading your question correctly, F-D-DF = Dragon Punch motion

F-D-DF ("dragon punch") is something I consider a Z motion: you make a Z with the joystick. That's always how I do them the fastest.

I tend to exaggerate the down/foward motion by bringing it all the way back to foward after I hit the the down motion. Generally, it works. I have gotten screwed a few times for doing it though, but not too often.

ah, the first encounters with the "dragon punch motion", brings back memories...
:)

best I can tell you is just to practice practice practice...when first trying it, this is a totally foreign motion which you must allow your fingers enough time to become accustomed to...

best method is to play a practice mode or vs game with no one controlling player 2...this will allow you the luxury of practicing the motion at your leisure until you feel comfortable enough to try it in real battles...remember, learning to do the move is still not the same as being able to do the move at a moment's notice under pressure so give yourself as much time as you need to make it second nature to you...and don't practice on any KOF prior to 96 as the accuracy is really strict and you may get frustrated real quick...you'll get it eventually

Try f, qcf instead of f, d, df because it's easier to pull off than stopping at df ;).
That's what I do atleast and it ALWAYS works and I have more success that way. I own all players in KOF2K3 that way.

Yeah, with the earlier games F-D-DF-F gets you a D-DF-F. Later games get you a F-D-DF, 'cause SNK and Capcom figured out that's what everyone's trying to do when they start with F.

on street fighter, i worked out d,df,f,d,df,f works for a shouryuken, but not in snk games(?????) so, thanks guys, the "z" motion tactic helps a lot!

On a lot of Capcom games, though, D-DF-F-D-DF-F leads to a hyper move, so I'd avoid getting in that habit.
