Well, just picked one up,
, first and foremost, there not as scarce as I thought firsthand. My local Wal-mart had about 4 or 5 in stock.
Now, my impressions:
This thing is BIG! Heavy too! Seeing the pictures of the DS and PSP together, and now seeing the DS's size, makes me wonder how huge the PSP must be.
The system is well built and strong, the buttons are a little small, but it hasnt presented a problem for me yet.
The screens, albeit a little tad small, are very bright, and very clear.
Im still trying to get use to the touch screen analoug controls (playing M64DS) it does take a lot of getting used to, but im slowly getting the hang of it. I want to build a faux pas analoug stick using some at home stuff, so ill get back to you all at that.
The sound is great, it seems quite on par with n64 music, the Mario 64 ds music is identical to its predeccessor. Of course, just like ALL OTHER PORTABLE SYSTEMS since the Game Gear, the speakers, (although the DS offering Stereo) are no where as loud as im sure, we'd like them to be.
Unfortunatley, it does get a little uncomfortable to hold quite quickly, maybe because its too thin. My thumbs, I have to keep them close into my hands to properly contact the d pad and buttons, so i find myself having to re-adjust often, but ive gotten somewhat used to it now.
Its to early to report, but I played it on the battery right out of the box, and it suprised me when it died out after aproximatly 2.5-3 hours. Im hoping it wasnt fully charged, so ill give it another whirl and find out.
My biggest dissapointment: NO FULL SCREEN ON GBA GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone, please tell me it isnt so!!
Anyways, those are my impressions, i am happy with the unit, the mini games are great in M64, and i was very excited to get this system, and despite talk, it is SEXY.
