OK, I AM SERIOUS!

I like the PSP a lot.

BUT:

- The unit IS VERY FRAGILE

- The screen scratches VERY easily

- The butoons are loose and sometimes "squeak"

- The drive door stays a little open

- The loading times (Especially between rounds in Puzzle Bobble) are annoying.

- Battery life sucks, I'm sorry... but my unit has spent the same amount of time on the charger as it has in my hands

- The screen will NOT stay clean

- I'm scared to bring it out of the house

The DS:

- Very DURABLE

- The screens WILL NOT SCRATCH

- The games are new and innovative

- GBA library

- Its Nintendo

- 100+ games in development

After the IM's PM's and Emails.... here it is.

Did you make it shoot out a game yet?

I can't get it to.. the screen even turns different colors from the twisting.

I tried to shoot my daughter in the face... but it won't happen.

Except the problems with the buttons and the loading time on the PSP, all what you mentioned was predictable. I don't know why it comes suddenly as a surprise.

I was hoping for a more durable system...

I was scared shitless bringing to EB to show the guys there.

They all like it.

Your list isn't balanced.

I could have told you before it came out that the DS would be more durable.
Duh.

Of the 100+ games in development, which ones are N64 rehashes?
That's my problem with Nintendo...most of the GBA games I liked were SuperNES games. If this is the DS's future, it's in trouble...because most of the N64 library bored me to tears.

How many games are in development for PSP?

Concerning the nintendo rehashes, I won't argue with you about that but the point is that quite all of them where good games. I don't mind playing NES classics, FF1 and 2, super mario world,etc...
IF the same apply to the DS, i'm not worried.

yeah, as much as i hate to admit it(especially on n-g.com) the ps2 has more games i'd play than n64. if all PSP gets is mostly ps1/ps2 rehashes/ports and all DS gets is mostly n64 rehashes/ports i'm going with PSP.

both systems will have exclusive titles, but it looks like mostly rehashes for both the systems.

right now, i'm awaiting arrival of my PSP+Ridge Racers, and possibly waiting for the DS to drop in price, cuz i'm just not that interested in it right now.

I've yet to touch a PSP, but I know my DS is built tough. I could probably hit a small child in the face with it and not damage it ( while it's closed up ).

I've heard so many conflicting statements about the battery life of the PSP. Some say it's horrid, others say it's great. Is this the result of certain people overhyping it or could their be problems with some of the battery packs ? Some people say 2-3 hours per charge, others say they get 6-7 hours per charge. That's a big gap.

I'd say 3 hours tops for anything I do.

I play my Mina no Golf and after 18 holes, the battery bar is down 1 (3 total)

Puzzle Bobble lasts the longest..

Puyo Pop Fever will be here today, so I'll find out about that.

Which reminds me...

I am still really disappointed that the screen scratches that easily. I know I read somewhere that they were going to coat the screen with some really tough stuff to prevent that.

Obviously it didn't happen and I can't remember where I read it.

all handhelds have been console rehashes since the NGPC and Wonderswan. that's what you buy a handheld for now, puzzle games, sonic the hedgehog and console ports.

if the DS has 100 games in development, you can bet the PSP has as many if not more, seriously, it IS sony, even if they just do PS2 ports, that's a hell of a library right there.

I dont mind if portable games are extensions of existing series...
Ridge Racers will be awesome, and Vampire Chronicles is hardly a game that's been beaten to death. But Mario64 DS is literally the same title, albeit with a fair amount of new content, it just doesn't inspire me to pull out the wallet and dump a shitload of cash for it, when I could go out and get an N64 and Super Mario for $20.

Dash is right about PSP development though...given that it's Sony, you WILL see a mountain of titles from the major Japanese 3rd parties at least.

A really good game that makes creative use of the hardware may make me change my mind about the DS (WHERE THE FUCK IS PUNCH-OUT!!?!) but right now, this thing has Game Drought Of 2005 written all over it.

I guess only time will tell. But this news and what else I have been hearing does not bode well for Sony. I am not impressed buying a system that feels like it's gonna break at any minute. I really hope Sony can build the system to be tougher or my money will end up going for Nintendo.

I'm still pretty excited about being able to play Japanese software on my PSP when they release here in the US. I'm sure most of the titles I want won't come out here and even if some do they're always be the obscure Japanese games I'll only be able to obtain by importing. I've seen pics of your systems side by side Tonk and I must say I really dig the PSP's large screen. Also, I've heard there is some plastic protective layer you can buy to put on the screen, you can bet I'll be buying one of those to save from scratches.
