I probably never plan to own more than 10 homecarts at a time. sad I know but meh I'd start going OCD crazy, its bad enough at present.

anyways, this is ignoring MVS for the minute, as its cheap enough to pickup other titles just off hand sort of thing, but for ngh, if you had 10 on the shelf, which would they be? I often think about this as I chop and change a lot and always have around 6-10 carts.. and its different to a 'list your top 10 fave neo games' I think as you have to think of all genres ..

I went through a period of owning 7 ngh and they were all fighters, that sort of got stale very quick, so I chopped and changed, and find it a better way for me, now I have at least some other genres. you know in the UK when the neo released they used to have 'trading clubs' merely for people to get a taste of other games by swapping for a while.. anyway

discussion is good.

I have at present

ss1
ss2
(missing space where 3 should be)
ss4
KOF98
FFS
RBFF
Sonic Wings 2
Blues Journey
I'd probably put hmm, see I'd put kof03 as I think I could get lost (stoned) with the tagging and combos and guff forever, but I'd need another genre so it could be magician lord or thrash rally, some sort of other genre.

I had around 34 games at one time but they were mainly shitty fighting games so I sold most of them off.

I have trimmed down to just the ones that I like

Sengoku
Baseball Stars
League Bowling
King of the Monsters
Nam '75
Ghost Pilots
Joy Joy Kid

if I was going to buy anymore games I would get another phantom-1 with

BTG
Metal Slug
Zed Blade
Blazing Star

can't think of anymore worth getting really.

Rage of the Dragons - only home release, not very deep but lots of fun, great characters and BG's

Matrimelee - ditto on the only home release PLUS it's Power Instinct PLUS the soundtrack is awesome

KOF 2002 - the wife likes it

Samurai Spirits 2 - 3 and 5 are good, but 2 is better

SVC - Ryu on Neo-Geo

KOF 1996

RB2 or Special - never owned either of them so I wanna see what the hype is all about

VirtuaFighter1 - this would have been an awesome addition to the library

OK, so that's not ten games that's only eight. And one of them doesn't even exist. So sue me. I don't care, you are racist and homophobe and I can't believe I even bothered to type this all up for you.

Bastard.

Metal Slug 3
KOF 98
KOF 02
Samurai Spirits II
Samurai Spirits IV
Last Blade
Blazing Star
Neo Turf Masters
Magican Lord
Magical Drop 3

I think those would be the 10 to have if that is all you could have. I only own 5 of them currently, though :oh_no: I should get Magican Lord to make it 6.

My personal collection has grown to a large size (20+ I don't feel like counting right now), but I love it as each of the games always gets some sort of play time.

Metal Slug 2

Fatal Fury Special

Real Bout Fatal Fury

Samurai Spirits 3

Art of Fighting 3

King of Fighters 95 and 2k1

Last Blade

World Heroes 2

ASO II

Man, dude, 10 is not enough... I'd spice it up a little with Pulstar, Neo Turf Masters, Neo Geo Cup 98, Spinmaster, Raguy and GanGan.

Ah yes, hi tsuka, long time no see.

As requested, WH2 has been inserted into my list for enhanced reading pleasure.

Kernow-

I'm going to circumvent a potential 10-list for these reasons:

1.) Limiting yourself to 10 homecarts for the sake of limiting is a worse thing than really just owning whatever you want. It is a self-imposed game, of game collecting. Sounds masturbatory if you ask me dood.

2.) If you are a MVS'er, why have homecarts to begin with? For aestetics? Just to say you play both sides of the field?

3.) The point in owning games is to give you the ability and luxury of having said library at your disposal, 24/7. Same goes with owning DVD's.

So, for any rational reason why you'd only want 10 games, that's something you would have to decide on yourself. To have a top 10 AES cart collection just for the sake of having 10 is a novelty-like idea, bound to wear off IMO. I'd save your energy, and collect whatever the hell you want and keep what you play.

For what its worth.

I don't have many more than 10 myself (well, less than 20, anyway), so listing the first 10 I got is pretty much my must have list:

Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout 2
Samurai Shodown 3
King of Fighters 2002
Real Bout Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury 3
World Heroes 2
Last Blade
King of Fighters '94

As you can see, my idea of variety is a bunch of different fighters, so I left an open spot for a different genre. On the other hand, I'd probably fill the space with an AOF game, which I don't have currently. Takumaji, I'm noticing your list is pretty similar (even including WH2), except that you have RBS instead of RB2, and KOFs '95 & '01 instead of '94 & '02. But, I'm surprised RBFF didn't make your list...

This is AES only? You have RBFF on there, as well as SS2 (my 2 favorite homecart inserts). Get rid of the other 8 AES carts and get more MVS :). Doesn't hurt that they're both games that have aged well and are so friggin fun to play. Be hardcore and limit yourself to just 2 :smirk:.

Heh

I meant RBFF but wrote RBS, edited my first post accordingly. RBS isn't all that great IMO.

For me, RBFF is the best Real Bout game, and together with FFS, it's in my top-5 list of Neo fighters.

WH2... well, I have a soft spot for ADK stuff, particularly the WH series... still think it's heavily underrated, mostly by ppl who suck at it.

I was struggling with myself over KoF94 or 95 for a while but listed 95... basically it's 94 enhanced with one of the best KoF engines ever, despite the damage "problem". Graphics, music, roster, simply beautiful and spot on.

I also wanted to list 98 but chose 2k1 instead, for the first time ever... it's my official first choice for 2P KoF, but well... there isn't a really bad KoF, I love them all for different reasons. 94 for starting it all (and the great artwork), 95 for perfecting the early formula, 96 for not just trying to mimic 95 but introducing new elements, 97 for being the best single player KoF, 98 for being just as cool (and slightly more focussed) in 2P as 2k1, 99 for some gameplay twists that I like and the awesome graphics, 2k for new gameplay additions, new charas and the soundtrack, 2k1 for being the god of KoF, 2k2 for... for... ...being 2k2, and 2k3 for giving us some new shit to fool around with, some good shit I might add.

Well... the ten-carts-thing doesn't work IMO... too much cool stuff... :)

Being missing only two of ten I would say get Magician Lord and Alpha Mission II aka ASO II. Again shame on you for selling that SSIII, after all the gold digging you went through to get it!

I would also swap '98 with '97 if I were you and perhaps drop FFS in favour of, I don't know, Sengoku 2, keeping in mind your unstated but presumable budget.
