OK, so I get the box, open it up...
First thing I see are the earbubs, instruction BOOK and the Memory Stick packed up nicely!
After throwing that stuff aside, I dig deeper into the bottom of the box underneath the white FLAP!
There is a smaller box in the bottom, and I'm like, holy shit, this thing is small.
I hurried up and placed the memory stick in the side, the door is like a rubber piece that pops back into place, very sturdy.
Next comes the battery.
The battery door is kind of cheap, you'll see when you get yours, it stays a little (little) loose, no biggie.
Next I apply the handstrap, its a nicely made leather strap with the PS XOtriangleSquare logo on it.
I'm very excited to try it out!
I grab my Ridge Racer and pop it in.
The disc door works rather well, and closes tightly on both sides.
Next I turn on the power...
I am greeted by a gray scrren that asks me to set the time and date...
I hurried up and set it...
Then the machine boots up and shows the "PSP" logo...
I'm in awe, its beautiful!
The menu screen pops up, and I have to figure out how to start the game...
I find it.. (If you leave "UMD" highlighted, a short demo of what game is in there pops up, very neat)
So I start Ridge Racer...
I notice the load times.
Not really bad...
So I get a screen with Rally X and some Japanese text at the bottom... so I play it for a little bit, and I'm thinking the game is loading....
So after 5 minutes of "loading" I notice the word "SELECT" has benn on the bottom of the screen for some time...
I press the select button...
PSP logo pops up again...
Then the intro for Ridge Racer starts playing...
I watch as this little machine puts the PS2 to shame.. You have to see the screen with the droplets on the car, and the detail on the headlamp!
I press start and just keep pressing start as I have no clue what the fuck is going on.
Suddenly I get to pick my car...
Then the course and the race starts...
The announcer is actually cool in this version (sounds black)
The visuals are sometihng to behold... but thats not where it ends.
This is the BEST Ridge Racer game I have played since the original back in the day!
Drifting was never so easy, and if you do some crazy shit, your NOS bottle fills up!
I'll be honest, there is really no real sense of speed... but its very easy to control.
All in all I'm very excited with this system!
Was it worth the price of admission? To me, yes... but in reality, no.
Is it going to own the DS? That depends on Nintendo and their will to win.
Am I happy with my purchase? A big YES!
