Re:Forum subscription fee thread

I was going to post my thoughts in that thread, but its already been derailed to hell wouldn't have it.

Anyways, how about instead of mandatory fees, we have the option to "donate" and with this donation we get certain special things granted to our account:

Examples:

1. Little banner/graphic under our username indicated we are a subscriptor

2. Ability to change our username Once. For many of us this alone would be worth the price of admission. I would like to change mine, but I have no intentions of losing my post count or post history.

To keep this from being abused, you could attach some rules to it:

A. Mod has to change it
B. Underneath your username it will same something like "Formely known as whoever"
C. Maybe account has to be atleast 1 year old

3. Perhaps other perks such as an email addy @ neo-geo.com. This one is highly doubtable, but an idea. You could also work up some type of other special features to grant to the folks that donate.

If you want an example of a system just like this for a really big forum that works, head over to Ars Technica and check out there Open Forum. They have been running a system like this for several years and their bbs system is much larger than this one.

With some work, Shawn and company could easily use this to their and the forum members advantage. Although buying from the Neo store would probably be the best way to help the site out, many folks here can't afford or don't even have an AES or MVS system to play these games on. Many are here for the buying/selling forums or just general video game discussion. In this case, offering a donation system would help pull in some income from folks that would most likely otherwise never buy from the Neo Store.

ooh it sounds all so complex

I don't see the point of the neo-geo.com address, we're members of the site, not staff.

it'd also be like IGN, "no you can't download this if you're not a subscriber - SUBSCRIBE NOW"

Thats a good idea. Only thing is that you would need to have mods around here a little more often as you know some folks will spam the other forums with non related bullshit since Unrelated and War Room is off limits to non subscribers.

Perhaps just limiting the War Room would be a better idea?

Would it be a set subscription price or one of those "tier" systems (ie: bronze, silver, gold)?

"Privileged" members should get handed out keys to the executive washroom too...

...the public ones are almost always totally void of toilet paper, and I'm so sick of having to use my socks.

You deserve a christmas kick to the balls for even posting this idea.

I love all the ass kiss that this sites infested with. I wonder how many of you dudes have wet dreams of shawn.

I see zero advantage for this. It will just create a elitist hiarchy.

I mean shit, you guys defend him and kiss his butt on every corner. Hes a neo fan just like us, not the next coming of jesus.

As Shawn said in the other thread, no need for paying for the site.

You want to reduce/eliminate spammers/scammers/fake accounts? You put in a one or two day waiting period for account activation.

OK, apparently this was a bad idea.

It had nothing to do with any form of ass kissing, just trying to give back in a reasonable form.

I think it's funny that the only time people think that mods do anything is when you see someone get banned or a thread moved. If this place was moderated like other forums you probably wouldn't want to be here.

Sorry, Todd, but I gotta disagree. Yes, like said before, it will create somewhat of an elitist hiearchy (sp). I never really liked this idea before (like the "expert status" plan or the "don't let kids join" plan). I understand it'd be nice to give back to Shawn, but as I always say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

PS: The rare Spotted BMU (Biomoticus Spoticus) has been sighted! This one's for the logbook!

Hes totally right about this. I've seen some dickhead nerd mods in my life.

You can get banned for barely anything at some other places.

Thats why im into ng.com and on.com more then other fan boards.
