Just got KOF'96 last night, totally psyched. The lack of some moves I'm familiar with, such as Athena's high kick, Kyo's and Iori's axe kick surprised me somewhat, been so familiar with them that it's actually rather exciting, makes this installment feel real old school. What'd I'd like to know is, why is Goenitz such a cheap bastard? I had the living bejeezus scared out of me when he rolls past me, grabs me and performs his wind pillar throw DM! wtf, Goenitz doesn't need a Pow meter to perform his DMs? What's his Pow meter for?

That's correct, Goenitz does not need any POW meter to murder you with a super move.

His POW meter is there to let you beat him with patterns. Scroll down for cheap pattern to beat him.

The easy way to beat Goenitz is to turtle and constantly taunt down his POW meter (you can interrupt your taunts by moving slightly, so you can "triple taunt" anybody's meter empty like this: press BC, move, press BC, move, press BC move, takes less than 2 seconds total).

Wait until Goenitz starts charging his own POW meter and let him have it. He won't block or defend while he's charging up.

That works rather well against the early Rugal's as well.

And yes Goenitz is a cheap bastard ala SNK tradition. But style wise he was definately one of my favorite bosses.

Personally my fave KoF boss. Not too hard and also has an awesome stage with the best KoF boss music.

Snk bosses are supposed to be insanly superpowered not weak like '00 Zero and Orochi from KOF 97

he AIN'T any cheap

Hey Hey kiddo
Goenitz is not cheap.
He is just HARD.
I find Igniz the cheapest boss in KOF.
Then Rugal in 2K2 is both stupid and cheap.
Both the bosses in 2K3 are cheap specially that Adelhied or whatever his name is.
Goenitz and Krizalid are the best HARD bosses in KOF.

HOW CAN YOU DIFFER BETWEEN CHEAP AND HARD:
The characters DEPENDING on fireballs are cheap. (Rugal in 98)
The characters whose moves cannot be countered and/or punished are cheap. (Igniz)
Characters with 100% attack precedence are cheap. (Igniz 2K2 Rugal)
Characters whose fireballs kill all other fireballs and they use this fireball very often are cheap. (Rugal, Igniz, Krizalid, Goenitz)
And the most BASIC thing; The bosses who love to fight keeping a long between you and then are 100% cheap.
The characters that make you curse them when they beat you are cheap. (LOL the most popular way of knowing cheap characters)

Note that this classification is my own made but I think are sensibles shall agree to that.
