I got 2 of the new style ones and 1 of the old, there both nice although the new one is obviously smaller, but it feels like its more robust to me.

Its a bit like the option between large and small xbox controllers really everyone has there favourate type.

I have both, but personally I prefer the newer ones, the older ones are a little too large for me I and struggle to pull off the moves.

Old Style all the way for me. I own an old style, new style and CD pad. The new style joy is too small and tends to slip with me when playing, and also the buttons are not spaced out enough for the "feel" of the arcade. The CD pad is the worst in my opinion as the button placement makes it very hard to pull off supers in alot of games that require the pressing of multiple buttons.

I posted a similar thread in General about a month or two ago, and everyone seemed really, really divided on the issue. I just recently got a Neo with one new style controller, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's nice to be able to feel the microswitch directions all individually... and I got the impression that the old-style stick doesn't have that, although I haven't used one personally. I think it really comes down to personal preference. Personally, I'm going to be ordering an old style stick within the next month to give it a try.

Old style stick is way better as the newer stick doesnt have the right feel to it.

I am used to the layout on my Candy Cab, so I like the new stick better. The layout is much more similar to my cab's. It seems like the old one is set up to be used with your thumb, index, middle, and ring finger. The new one looks like it is for the index, middle, ring, and pinky. I can't tap fast with my thumb, so I like the new one for that reason too. The stick itself on the new one has a very stupid and uncomfortable shape.

New Style all the way for me. I don't like how the buttons are layed out in a stepper angle on the old style sticks. The New Style's button layout is more like an arcade cab's layout. The buttons on the New Style also stick up further ( not sunk down any ).

I have both Old and New Style, as well as the CD controller, but I use my Old Style for fighting games. I use my CD controller for Stuff like Puzzle Bobble, or Viewpoint. I personally love the CD controller, but trying to hit BC on it when you're playing SS, or trying to BC tag in '03, just doesn't work very well. I never really like the New Style stick, so my friends have to use it until I get another Old one.

New style sticks are ok ... but they just don't work nearly as well for fighters. I think the main problem is that the stick on new style sticks is just too short, making it much less precise than the old style stick. Another issue (at least for me) is that the new style sticks have, for whatever reason, a strangely shaped knob on the top of the stick. Maybe it was considered a little more fashionable or something at the time, but it just isn't as easy to grip and move in the midst of an intense match. In short, the old style stick is just much more functional. Oh, and the buttons on the new style stick are flat, as opposed to the convex buttons on the old style sticks. Supposedly convex buttons are the way to go, but personally I've never found the concavity/convexity of buttons to make much of a difference to me.

I like the Old-Style stick better. I have had many of both, for some reason the Old-Style Stick just seems better and easier to control. The stick is a little bigger also. Maybe it is just the ball thoguh! CD Pad is nice, but nothing beats the the Old-Style Stick IMO!

its preference, but personally i like the old one; its the one that came with the system, looks cool next to your AES, fits better on my lap than the new style stick, & its just part of the Neo image - powerful system (at the time), big carts, big joysticks.

Definitely prefer old-style - it's what I've been playing the Neo with for 12+ years. That said, the new-style feels like a more sturdy construction, more solidly made. I just can't get used to the actual stick.

Either one is fine if you just change that stupid ball on the new style stick. What were they thinking!?

The old style one does look cooler though, so I'd have to go with the old one style stick.

Out of the two sticks: I prefer the new style.
It's heavier and more solid in my opinion.

However, I prefer the Neo CD pad to both. I'm just a pad kinda guy. :)

Pad looks a little silly sat next to my 6-slot though. :kekeke:
