For those who live there I would like to know if:

1. The Neo has a dedicated following like we have here?

2. If so what games do they play?

3. Are there systems modded too?

4. Do they use big screen/high end televisions for their systems?

Just curious on how the hobby "plays" from where it came from:)

I talked to a part Japanese guy who lives here, and he was like "Yeah, I understand the Neo Geo has a sort of cult like status among you guys. Sort of funny, I mean, that's what I played as a kid".

So I guess, it's not quite the same phenomena in Japan, but of course, he doesn't represent all of Japan.

I heard there are few Japanese websites that's dedicated to neo-geo. Not nearly as big and organized as neo-geo.com but still active. I found one Korean website (actually more like a forum) for neo-geo users which took me some time to find.
Korean NEOGEO forum

They are hard to find, but extremely cheap when found.
According to their forum, Neo-Geo JAP AES system + KOF 94,95,96,97 + SS1,2,3 + Fetal Fury 1 (cart only)+ Fetal fury SP (cart only) costs less than $200.
But they are also saying that prices were going up recently.
Also, they seem to prefer JAP AES over to USA versions so EURO carts are actually cheaper than JAPs. (Sounds crazy but true)

Korean people can't read Japanese. They learn English as one of the required subject starting first year of junior high school, which means they are more familiar with English than Japanese. And as for the rarity of games, EURO games are harder to find in Korea as well.

Would you tell me why you think it makes perfect sence? :glee:

I love it. "Fetal Fury". "Even in the womb, they're deadly! Powa Wave!"

No offense, just thought that was a funny typo.

And, about Jp prices on Neo carts.... most of the common carts are pretty cheap here. There used to be a greater price difference between the states and Japan. But, now it seems that many are worth about the same, both in and outside of Jp. Rarer titles are still expensive though.

I also see a lot of cart systems in recycle shops. Probably because once you own a Neo there ain't no space for anything else in your apato, & ya gotta sleep with yer nose in the cart slot. Clean out da boogas before palying Ninja Wombat.

Do people have modded systems there? Or using the standard composite cables is fine with them.

I can go into pretty much any arcade here in Yokohama and play LB2, FFS, KOF 98,
and at least three different Metal Slugs. I don`t think I have seen an arcade yet that didn`t have something Neo in it. As far as the Neo scene here or whatever, I have no idea. None of my friends have a Neo but that doesn`t necessarily mean anything. The prices tend to be pretty good. I picked up a sealed SS2 for 930y in Akihabara. To put that into perspective, my monthly copy of Arcadia magazine costs 640y. Platformers tend to fetch a higher price but it all depends on where you go. I tend to find games are cheaper here in Yokohama but they are harder to find. For example, I picked up a perfect condition LB1 for 7800y (about $75) but in Akiba it would have cost a lot more.

..that the Korean gamers would prefer the Japanese versions of NG games?

I suppose so.

Besides neo, Do JP gammers collect games like we do in the states?

Like, do people collect Famicom/SFC titles like we do NES/SFC titles? Or do they just buy games to play them?
