Just got a Neo-Geo Gold Cabinet with a 2 slot board. When i plug the game cart. in , power it up, you get the first screen "NEO-GEO", these words have vertical lines throught them. This also happens when you see the preview of the games and when playing the games....this doesn't happen throughout the whole screen, only on the moving people or objects..
Not sure what to do here, I've already use some compressed air to clean out the cartridges and the pcb slots, and have cleaned them with a soft toothbrush and some alcohol. After everything was dry, i still have the same problem.
I also swapped out the 19" monitor with a new one to rule that out.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions on how to fix this.
Thanks
Gary :help:

I think you may have to run an additional Ground wire from the Chassis to the Mobo...Putting it to the metal shell of the 2 slot mobo ......Or run a Ground wire from the monitor chassis..(the frame) and run it to the ground wire in the Jamma Harness...
You could just tape one to the Chassis and mobo and see if it makes any change..

What's the power supply look like in the cab...

Does it look like this..?

I ask...because I've just always ran into all kinds of problems with these cabs when the original type is replaced by the standard screw on sides like..

Of course, it could always be just the carts contact with the board. I sometimes have to wiggle around my old, good and used carts a little while on to clear up similiar symptoms. Give that a try. :)

I have to think this is a contact problem. When I got my 4 slot it did the same thing. If you're sure the carts are clean, it has to be the board. Go to radio shack and get a can of contact cleaner (the kind with the brush on the nozzle) take the board out, and spray the slots like crazy. I used a whole can on mine. Then blow it out REAL GOOD. I let mine sit a day after i blew it out just to make sure it was dry. I can almost guarantee that will fix it. Good Luck!

I agree with both of you..

I always would go with contact problems first...It's always the problems I had or have seen.

Though things seem clean sometimes they are not....Just not enough.

I use the 91 % Alcohol-Q-tip method but no matter what it does not do the same job as my light sand paper or (dry) green scotch brite on cart contacts.
Right now I have NES carts apart on my table for a shipment tomorrow.
I'll put the 91 % Alcohol on the connectors,it'll get the dirt off but no shine...There is still corrosion/yellowing there.
Sand it with either of the above methods I use then you get a golden shine.
I then use Contact cleaner...though right now it's 91 % Alcohol because ran out of contact cleaner,.
Plus I use the finer side of a cardboard nail file to clean Mobo prong connections.

I use Contact Cleaner to get the dust and dirt/residue off after I clean the stuff using my methods.

I like using contact cleaner..It's convenient and dries fast.

I'd also make sure the edge connector and Harness pins are super clean..

Thanks All for the help !!! I have cleaned all connections once, and have checked the voltages at the connector to the mb, all were okay. note: not sure if it matters, but the power supply was replaced with a newer switching power supply, but voltages were to spec.
I will try cleaning again and see what happens.
- > Forgot to mention, i did try wiggling the cartridges and running extra grounds, didn't make a difference. Also, this is happening in both slots of the 2 slot mb, and with differenct cart.
I'll paste some pics so you can see whats happening:

Try pushing the carts in but not all the way. Only slightly in. I use to get picture glitches with new AES carts if they were not pushed in correctly.

I get that same thing when something is dirty...99% it's usually the cart....Cleaning the cart always fixes the problem

I even got the same thing with Baseball Stars Professional tonight..
Earlier I had cleaned the carts boards using Q-tips and 91% Alcohol..without opening it up..
When I put it in the Candy tonight I got what you get....(damn it!!)
Company was coming and I had to take it out..Open it and clean it with light sand paper.
I even took picks of the pcbs of the difference after the Sand paper then paper towels and 91% Alcohol ..Trying to catch the shine of the connectors.

I wonder if your Bios Chip wasn't seated right would it cause that.....or the connections between the top and bottom board.(pin blocks)

Try pulling the cart to the side a bit like you would do with say a bad 72 pin Nintendo
