AES sound/video questions...

Hey, I've had my AES for less than I week, and damn I'm happy with it, but I have a couple questions.

1. I'm using a minijack-->L/R phono cable right now to pull stereo sound off my unmodded Neo, but something seems strange... it appears as though the left and right channels are reversed. Just to make sure it wasn't a labeling issue on my cable, I used an adapter and phono cable with the same result. Now, the unscientific method I've been using to test this has been Fatal Fury 2. When beating down happens on the left side of the screen, the sounds output on the right speaker, and vice versa. Is this just a programming issue with FF2? Or is it something weird with the channels being reversed through the headphone jack of the AES? If it's just the way that FF2 is, then I'm really embarassed, but I'm curious.

2. I'm just using the standard RCA video to connect the Neo to my TV, since my system is unmodded and an X-Neo is expensive, but I'm noticing something strange. It seems as though there are vertical bars that alternate between lighter and darker shading every couple of inches on my 27" TV... is this one of those "bad video output using composite" known about problems, or is this a bad cable (or, gasp, system)? It's very obvious on whilte or same-colored backgrounds (bios startup [when the background is white[ is a good example).

Thanks in advance, everyone.

For some reason L and R are reversed on later systems (I think this applies to revisions 3-5 and 3-6 only). Easy fix: reverse the cable jacks on your TV. :)

Those subtle lines are common. Some consoles even show them (to a less obvious degree) with the S-Vid mod perfomed, but this can be lessened with tweaks to the mod.

Yeah, the reversed audio thing is very common on the 150-250k serial numbers.

As for the picture that's called striping and it's a feature not a bug. All Neos do it (some more than others, some less) however it's present on them all.

So, you're good to go; your Neo's fine.

Hmm... a feature, hey? I'm curious as to what advantage that would have. Sorry if I sound really new to this all, but I am. I'm not aware of that being present on any other consoles, and I'm just wondering what advantage it could possibly have.

Actually, that was a joke. It's a limitation of the Sony controller chip. THe Genesis uses the same chip and also stripes the picture a bit. I have a "low" serial system 24k and it stripes just as much as the higher serial numbers. So it is perfectly normal for a stock Neo to do that. THe Xneo will make the stiping a little less as will a the standard mod... still it will be there to a degree even then.

 I'm a little embarassed... well, actually a lot embarassed. Thanks for the info, though, pretas. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to mod my system pretty soon, but it's just such a tight time for money right now. I really am having troubles looking at my TV without cringing when the striping becomes obvious.

I dusted off my Genesis and booted it up to see if I could notice, and sure enough, there was striping present.

Thanks again, guys.
