Okay, I gave in too and bought myself one along with Ridge Racers. Mind you, I bought it from my local shop and not from Play-Asia, I decided to cancel my PSP preorder from them, but still buy the games and accessories from them.

So, I bought the standard one, not the value pack. You know what it came with. I have to go through 3 units in the store to get one that is minty fresh (no scratches on screen, no dust under the screen, and most importantly, NO dead pixels).

All those talks about its loading times during startup, playing games, etc. are bullshit IMO. I mean, I'm the kind of person that care about the smallest of details, and I don't think loading in this machine takes too long. Ridge Racers plays great, graphic is great and gameplay is solid although the analog (or whatever its called) might take some time getting used to.

Speakers (external, haven't tried the headphone yet) is great. I don't notice any noise or whatever, IMO its better than the DS. Backlight at the highest setting is very bright and my eyes got hurt because of it so I switched to 2nd highest. :p
Reading and writing to the memory stick is fast, no noticable delays.

IMPORTANT: system language can be changed to English!! (same as PS2).

What else...?

The top part of the psp easily picks up scratches and finger prints, so bear in mind. I have ordered the screen protectors from PA to take care of this problem.

Now battery life... I haven't really mess around with this one, but I guess you guys know that IGN is doing some research about how long the battery lasts.

I guess thats about it... if there's any question feel free to ask me. :)

thats awful, I guess it did crash during that golf game demonstration, (kutaragi shuffles feet, tries to make excuses)

DS demonstration, of course, being nintendo hardware, goes flawlessly.

Darn, I thought I'd read that they had used a screen coating to make the screen scratch free.

Is the PSP region free? I know you can change the interface to English, but does doing so make the games play in english and will US games be able to be played on a JP PSP?

God fucking damnit!
The units they had for hands on tests at the unvieling had a plastic coating that was as tough as nails. What a fucking jip. Nice to hear the laoding may not be as bad as once thought though.

Well, I haven't got one, but I'd guess no. I expect it is possible, but the games will be released in their home territory before they are translated, so the other languages won't be on the disc.

For RR, you can only play in Jap even if you switch the system language to english.

Are there any stores online (or around your area) that will have similarly priced PSP units that will ship to Canada? I'd love one but I'm quite sure eBay is insane now and I'd rather not deal through Japan... :(
