I have a 4 slot that has no sound. it looks like the sound amp chip was changed and I reflowed the solder on the chip but no luck. What else could it be? It did one time come up with an Z80 error.

Still looking for some help!

If youve had Z80 errors, check for continuity probs around that area, the Z80 is the sound proc for the audio (along with the YM 2610) the associated memory may be a problem , thats location ram 6116 and rom SM1, remember the board may have three layers of track, ie one sandwiched in the center, so its difficult to confirm visually. Some members have gone in with blanket chip replacements and still had problems- or fucked the board in the process (it can be difficult even with the right equipment)- its a tricky one im afraid.

Thanks. I guess I will let this board sit.

I have 12 VDC comming out of the power supply because my other 4 slot works in the same cab. I will check at the chip. Thanks.

As far as I've seen in the multi-layered PCBs the internal layers are just for power/ground. All the data traces that disappear from either parts side or solder side reappear in the same point on the opposite side. Have you actually seen a case of a trace running hidden in an internal layer?

Good point MKL, I will check a MVH-MV1 that had Z80 probs in this area, but it may have been ground and vcc continuity and not address/data connections come to think of it.
