Hello

I am having bloody trouble in getting my (American i think) NeoGeo AES to work in colour on my bedroom TV. Here is my situation:

I have a NeoGeo AES (with a scart lead, not sure if it is RGB - it came with the system)
The bedroom TV is 60hz compatible (as the picture doesn't roll)
TV displays in b/w despite using scart cable and in RGB socket of TV
The NeoGeo displays in colour when using the downstairs living room TV (in RGB)

My bedroom TV manufacturer is Mitsubishi (can't remember model/serial). I have used the search function on these boards to search for the same type of problem that other people have encountered, and i gained nothing - as it hasn't answered my question. My only option i see is getting on of them NTSC-PAL converters, to display NTSC colour on my bedroom TV - as it would appear my bedroom TV doesn't support NTSC signals or something.

Any other ideas and help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

RGB is independent of the PAL/NTSC colour encoding (so a converter would be no use), so if you're using a real RGB cable you should always get colour on an RGB TV. The TV RGB input socket usually also supports composite so it could be that the scart cable is not wired for RGB but for composite. Check the wiring inside the scart plug and post a pic if you're not sure.

How many SCART sockets does the TV have? Try plugging the lead into SCART1, which is usually the one that accepts an RGB signal. Someone I sold a 60Hz Mega Drive to had the same problem.

Hi

Many thanks for the replies. The TV has 2 scart sockets (one RGB the other normal AV). I used the RGB for the NeoGeo,as well as the other, but got same result. I will have a look at my scart lead (NeoGeo), but i don't really know what i am looking at! :) lol Can someone post a wiring diagram of somesort, or where i can get a proper RGB cable?

Best Regards,

-EDIT-

Actually, wouldn't the NeoGeo scart cabl;e be RGB anyway, considering it does display the NeoGeo in colour on my living TV? I am confused.

Since the Neo can also output a composite signal, a scart cable could be wired for just composite and would display in b&w only if the TV wasn't compatible with the console video standard (say, NTSC console on PAL-only TV).

Hehe has the Exeter shop changed much in the last 3-4 years? I remember going there and getting the high score on the SSII MVS(200020 with Hanzo) and then one day Trevor wiped it!!!!

Popping down to Newton Abbott early next year to visit family, so may have to take a detour via Exeter St Davids.

Hi

Yeah i used to go in IT games a lot. I remember when they had the Metal Slug MVS system in there. I used to waste so many hours playing that game. Oh, and they had a quite superb gaming collection (i remember being dead jealous over the NeoGeo systems they had). But best of all, it was where i got my Amiga 500 from! :buttrock:

Anyhow, i think i will need an RGB scart cable (it seems to be logic choice). Does anyone here have a spare one for me to buy, then please email me. If not, then where can i get it from (as cheap as possible). I want to play Metal Slug in colour! :) Thanks for the help.

last time I went they don't have the MVS cab any more :(

but they did have about 15 homecarts, all US mind so I wasnt too interested except for viewpoint, anyway, they said the prices ranged from 60-300 quid so meh.

:)

don't think they'll have rgb cables either.

Biggest regret about that place - Not keeping my Gowkaizer US AES that Trevor let me have for £130 about 4 years ago. I'll have to give them a call soon. When was the last time you went there?

Also, I think the cab has been moved to either the Exmouth or Tiverton store.

Regards,

The picture doesnt have to roll for the tv not to be compatible.

Check inside the scart plug and see how many terminals are connnected. If there are 9 then it is a proper RGB lead.If there are only 5 or 6 then its a composite scart.Pins 7,11,15 are the red, green and blue inputs(sometimes with 22uf capacitors on them.Pins 2,4,6 are your left right and ground for your sound(sometimes 2 and 6 may be connected for a mono system). Then pins 8 and 16 may be bridged with a resistor(for scart switching and thenpins 18 and 20 are wired as well for your picture and sync.

One other thing is that more modern consoles when powered up automatically enable the RGB circuit in the tv(I can't remember what pin it is in the plug).I know its a daft Q but have you actually tried all the AV buttons on your remote?

Failing that,Argos do a 1 in-3 out scart switcher box that has an RGB on/off switch that allows you to enable and disable RGB independantly.I have used one of these on several TV's that didn't switch the rgb circuit on from either the remote or by the powering up of a console. They only cost £9.99.
