MVS 6 Slot - Sound Problems!!

My 6 slot board that I purchased on ebay just arrived. When I just tried the board I get sound out of the left speaker and hiss/feedback out of the other. I went into the test menu it seems that left, right & center sounds only come out of the left speaker. I was running a 4 slot in my candy cab. w/o any problems. I'm using a Super Neo Candy... Any ideas??

Thanks

Sorry I missed that in the first post.
I would say a problem between the YM3016 DAC and the HA13001 audio output stage. There is a 4558 and couple of LM324 op amps involved.
Maybe the audio output IC itself- is it getting hot.
Im looking for the pin out of the DAC so you could swap the inputs to eliminate a possible digital problem, I think the probs on the analog side.

unfortunately the DAC pdf does not have a pin out :( but I do have it somewhere :)

I was working on and almost completed a simplified schem from mvs cart to the speakers for the 6 slot- one of these days :buttrock:

Are you wired up for Mono or Stereo..
Did you have stereo sound going to two speakers or Mono split to two speakers.

I'd go over the harness wiring..

Candy Cab:
If I mix up the speaker ground wires to E,F,27,28 in the harness I will get no separation of sound at the test menu or all going to one side....depends on what ground wire I use..It's crazy, and it drove me crazy..
But I still will get sound out of both speakers when playing a game like it was stereo...so it could go unnoticed
Just when I would go into the test menu and try each side both speakers would sound for left and right no matter what side I chose to sound....Center sounded both, that's why it still worked but something was wrong..
I forget what I changed but it was within E,F,27,28 ...It was either two of the grounds were being used and needed to be separated.
Also make sure pin L & 10 are both going to positives on each speaker.

I changed the speaker ground wiring around and I got separation of sound...Problem solved.

What I was going to write before I read..(I went into the test menu it seems that left, right & center sounds only come out of the left speaker
Are you running it with any carts?
Does it read the carts..all 6..?
Maybe the power supplies a bit to low(?)..Though a 4 slot ran ok the sixer may need a tad bit more +5V.
If I lower the power supply in my cabs I'll get a hiss from the speakers..

Yes, I had six carts in the slots and they did show up in the test menu. I'll check the wiring for the speakers tomorrow. I bought the cab. new from Arcade Infinity several months back so I figured the wiring should be fine.

Take a check on that wiring..

My Candy cab came from them too..
Though the whole harness was untouched it was wired wrong..

Good luck,keep us updated..

I just checked inside the cab and the wiring to the speakers were fine. Any other suggestions?

Sounds to me like a fault on the board

Do you have access to a MV-1C mem card reader/headphone pcb, if so check the headphone out sound, if not I will let you know which pins to connect on the 4 pin headphone out socket to test this.

come to think of it you dont need it, the bottom board has the headphone sockets mounted on (so you dont really need the MV-1C to test this) sorry my mistake, they are inbetween the volume sliders and dip switches on the bottom board. marked J4 and J5
Try plugging some headphones in.

There is something seriously amiss if your getting sound from one speaker but nothing from the headphones, are you sure the phones are OK ??
+1 :oh_no:

Just poking at ideas..
Some things to check..

Make sure the harness is going on correctly..These Candy cab Jamma harnesses can be finicky.
Does this board feel really tight..or loose when sliding on the harness..?

One of my ST-V boards used to be harder to get on the harness..it was real tight.
I cleaned it with no change..then I sanded each connection with light sand paper(my cleaning methods)...Now it goes on like my other ST-V board ...easier....(it was a serious, surprising change as to the way it went on after the cleaning)

Maybe the harness going on is too lose and the 12 pin is not touching...Or too tight, warping the harness making pins not touch.
(((Curious: what side of the harness does the 12V pin need to be in the harness....If it goes on the top side or bottom..(???)

It looks to be reversed between my Candy Cab and Big Red...(Does this make a difference)
12V yellow wire seems to be on the top side of my Big Red harness but on the button side of the harness on my Candy(or vise versa/I forget)

Pins not making contact, being bent back could be a factor with any of them..May work or make contact with one board but not the other..
I guess a voltage reading from the back of each pin while the board is plugged in-on would determine that

Have you tried the board with:
No carts..going into the Test Menu etc..
Carts in different slots..Like trying to boot up with one cart in slot # 3.
Not saying you have any boots.
But a Bust A Move boot I have will knock out the sound completely on my Motherboards...Until I take it out only do I get any sound
With the cart in I get a faint hum from the speakers..That's it..
That's how I got my Gold Cab..sold to me with a BAM boot in the cab that had the seller thinking the board had no sound.
If he would of took out the cart and tried it without it he may have got sound.(if the Power supply had been good at the time)The 12V was also bad in the Gold Cab causing no sound...when I checked it.
But,..
This Bam cart will knock out the sound totally in any of my cabs....So I know it's one of the causes of the sound being out in that cab.
Also..Certain mixes of MVS carts will knock out sound....At least for me they do..

I tried a different set of headphones but still no sound from the 6 slot. I even tested the headphone jacks on my working 4 slot and no sound out of that one either. :annoyed:

Are you testing the 4 slot with headphones out of the memory card reader..?

I'm pretty sure the ports on the "4 slots" mobo are line in-puts(or outputs)..Not for headphone jacks..or use for headpones.

(I need to make sure on this)

As below...(are you wiring to the 4 pins or..?

# Of Slots 4
Cart Orientation V
Harness Type MVS
On Board Memory Slot No
MV-IC Memory Board Support Yes
Joystick Ports Yes
Stereo Through Harness Yes
Stereo Through PCB Connector Yes*
Stereo / Mono Switch No
Built In Headphone Jacks No
Headphone Connector Yes
Volume Control Yes
Headphone Volume Control Yes

# Of Slots 6
Cart Orientation V
Harness Type MVS
On Board Memory Slot No
MV-IC Memory Board Support Yes
Joystick Ports Yes
Stereo Through Harness Yes
Stereo Through PCB Connector Yes*
Stereo / Mono Switch No
Built In Headphone Jacks No
Headphone Connector Yes
Volume Control Yes
Headphone Volume Control Yes

MV-6F Manual
Notes:

The MV-6F is sometimes considered the most tempermental of the multi slots, but it has been pointed out that there are just more slots to deal with. This is the king of the MVS boards.
