There's no shortage of units to import and all the stores have their supplies secured....It's the japanese wholesalers engaging in psychotic price gouging...

Suppliers in Japan offered us PSP units to ship this past Saturday. Since we have sizable deposits in their respective accounts for the launch, they would be able to ship approximately 500-1500 units to us immediately depending on how many we needed. That was the good news.

We balked when the price was started at the yen equivalent of US$491.59 per PSP Value Pack without any games. We inquired about the price for the PSP regular pack and were met with a price of US$426.90. These were to be our per unit costs before shipping charges. If we were willing to pay their quoted prices for up to 1500 units, they would be able to supply them. Needless to say, we asked them to hold off on shipping anything until we could consult with customers to determine who was willing to be gouged.

This week's situation:
If you are willing to pay US$491.59 per PSP Value Pack + our actual import shipping cost per unit is, we will import it for you and have it ready to ship on WEDNESDAY. Guaranteed. There is apparently lots of supply available... at that price. No shortage... at that price. Import costs would be approximately US$21.30 per unit for a total price of US$512.89 per PSP Value Pack. Games will also be priced higher at US$58 for the six titles that were released this weekend: Armored Core: Final Front, Lumines (still $49), Mahjong Fight Club, Minna no Golf, Ridge Racer, and Vampire Saviour. There is no shortage of any of the games and they will all be readily available on Wednesday.

As we have mentioned many times before, our advice would be to wait a week or two. If suppliers are unable to make a quick killing on high priced stock over the next few days, panic will eventually set in and prices will be dumped. It only takes one member of the fragile cartel to break rank before all of the prices start tumbling. Sony will also ship more supplies of the PSP to market in the coming weeks and speculators will not be able to absorb all of that supply to keep any artificially inflated pricing stable.

Since we are asking customers to wait, we will keep everyone updated on the pricing situation and still process preorders in the order that they were received. We doubt that many customers would be willing to pay such a premium to have the PSP this week but if you are, please contact us with your full name and preorder number and we will ship your order this Wednesday. Please note however that we will not accept any PSP cancellations once you confirm at the higher price and your credit card will be charged today. We will also not accept any returns of the PSP because of dead-pixel problems. Yes, there are numerous reports of units with dead-pixel problems in the market. None of our suppliers or Sony themselves, apparently, will accept dead-pixel PSPs for return and you must agree to accept this condition.

Well at least this explains the across the board price gouging that the import stores are doing. This is why I'm going to wait for the U.S. release.

Now my question is, can a website like that actually gouge the price? Isn't there something against this?

Since this is an import item, thats not intended to be sold outside Japan, probably not.

Besides, its not the import stores that out jacking prices, its the people selling to them.

I don't know why all you people have been getting in a tizzy over Lik Sang, Play Asia and NCSX and other importers because of high prices. It was pretty obvious that the real jacking was going to be at the distrubition end of things. Basically their Japanese contacts are fucking them.

Looking at the email that Scan posted from NCSX, it looks like NCSX wouldn't so much as make a dime from selling you that $500+ PSP unit. They are selling it to you at their cost plus shipping. I think thats pretty generous.

So, everyone, get your panties out a of bunch, cause it ain't your import store of choice that is fucking you. Its the JP sellers selling to them that is fucking them.

End of story.

They're also encouraging people not to order in the hopes that the prices will collapse sooner and it will be better for *EVERYONE* unfortunately the weak links like Mushiki and any other idiot buying this shit off of ebay are hurting those chances.

Well I think that NCSX is paying a higher price per unit for the PSP, but in no way are they going to list what they pay for the item. That price they gave is total bogus. No company in their right mind would openly list what they bought an item for even if it deals with the PSP. NCSX is just going the smarter route by stating they would rather have people wait then pay higher prices. In that respect, I appreciate them doing that much.

If you take a look at other import sites, the Going price for them is $529 for the bungle pack, and $480 for the reg. My friend in Japan said you couldn't find one if you wanted now...and a lot of the stores that had them forced you to buy with a min of 2 games...

This is the way these import stores should have handled this in the first place, by telling these assclown distributors to kiss their ass. NCSX has the right idea, fuck the distributor into submission by not buying their price jacking game. That is exactly how you force the price to be like a retail store. The exact minute someone crumbles, is the exact second they get the idea to jack the price through the roof. Good job on NCSX's part if you ask me. I hope nobody goes for the high price so that we can hopefully put a stop to this shit.

Id rather buy a PSP at retail with two games, then buy a PSP only at double the cost. Buying a PSP and two games was what I planned anyway. And soon enough in Japan you'll be able to find them. I have a buddy going out to get me one in Japan, hopefully I'll hear from him soon.
