You get a b&w picture when you hook up a NTSC console to a PAL TV (or vice versa). A MVS board is neither NTSC nor PAL, it only outputs RGB, so you'll get colour on a scart (i.e. RGB compatible) TV. However, if the TV is not capable of 60Hz you'll get a rolling picture (which is even worse than b&w).

I think you are pretty much screwed and have no choice to buy a new TV. Come on, nowadays basically all of them are 60 hz compatible and I'm sure you will find a cheap enough one.

I don't know if there is some kind of convertor you could use with your TV, I remember a NTSC->PAL convertor so you could play your PSX NTSC games in a PAL tv, but it used RF signal and it sucked ass.

Since the problem here is the refresh rate and not the PAL/NTSC colour encoding (because he'll be using an RGB cable), the only thing to do is put the appropriate PAL jumper inside the machine: that will make it run at 50Hz.

no supergun... hopefully getting a 6 slot for kurisumas :D
was planning on consolizing it :)

my tv is an oldish 21" samsung mono crap :/ (i will check the model when i get home from school) so i doubt that it will do 60Hz... anyway to output 60Hz from my tv-out on the pc so i can test?

btw just for the record, i have a bad habit of using an excessive amount of smilies :kekeke:

No black/white as said, MVS is 60hz RGB, not specifically NTSC, so you just need your TV to support 60hz. Otherwise, you'll get a picture that's out of sync.

If it doesn't, yeah, you can probably fix the machine to do 50hz, but you should really get a new TV, if you're serious about this. Your friends will mock you if your Neo games run 15% slower. ;)

Just about every new PAL TV suports 60hz (and NTSC), including the cheap ones. I recommend a cheap 25" Philips TV, usually around 2000kr in ElGiganten.

Alright, I've never even heard of a jumper that would change the MVS to 50hz, but I guess it's fine if it doesn't slow down the games, like nearly every other console does in 50hz mode. Do you have any source confirming that it doesn't?

Either way, being unable to run 60hz is sad :oh_no:

Ah, I thought we were talking about a home system (the b&w issue...). In that case no of course there's no 50Hz jumper (early AES don't have it either btw). But yeah, unless the TV is a very old one (10+ years) there are good chances it can handle the 60Hz.

ok first of all, you would be the only one to mock me sumez :P since youre the only other person i know that even knows what it is (until i informed them) but since the jumper doesnt exist you cant mock me for that reason :P and right now my total wad of cash is approx -800DKK

my suspecions about my tv are caused by the fact that its something like... 7 years old and at the time it costed about 2k

btw it has been confirmed that i will get the 6 slot for kurisumas :buttrock:
(as far as consolizing goes my brain suddenly started thinking of several designs on my way home from school :))

edit: tried switching my tv-out to ntsc and the pitch of the tone that the tv generates was different so im guessing 60hz might be ok? although tvtool wont let me select PAL60 :/

Sell me all of your MVS stuff for $50 shipped. You can cut your losses this way and make me happy.

impossible for the games to run slower
:oh_no:

I've had my MVS games run slow as hell in every aspect. Just make the Jamma Harness partially attach to the JAMMA board and it'll run super slow-mo. I was freaked out at first, but then secured the harness and was happy again :)

If your samsung tv is only 7years old it should accept RGB and Pal60, I bought a 21" mono tv at Obs (or Coop Forum as its called nowadays) in 95' for 3000sek and it supports both. It was not some kind of fancy tv either. The label says Luma (coops personal label?), so my guess is that your TV is a lot more advanced than mine ;)

There's a good chance the tv supports 60hz, but you can't really say.
My gf's tv isn't too old either, and it supports RGB, but not 60hz, making me unable to play most of my games at her place. :(

Oh, and Fakta sells lots of crap. :P

Why don't you just try a Dreamcast, GC, Xbox or PS2 game that supports 60 hz in your TV through the scart lead? If the picture doesn't roll then it supports it.
