monitor burn, or...?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 4-slot version 3 cab and am enjoying it immensely, but I have noticed what appears to be (I'm assuming) burn-in along the left-hand edge of the monitor.
There are several thin(maybe a milimeter) vertical lines that are darker than the rest of the screen. The image still shows through the lines, but it appears to be at a darker opacity.
It doesn't show up on most in-game screens, but mostly on title and character select screens that have a higher level of brightness. So, it is not a problem right now as it does not affect gameplay in any way, shape or form. But I am wondering if the lines will continue to worsen over time or become large or more defined, or should I not worry about it? If they do tend to worsen, is it fixable?

If they won't get any worse I'll probably just leave it because they don't detract from gameplay, but I'm concerned about the future health of my cabinet ;)

Any advice from long-term cab-owners would be much-appreciated. I'd like my cab to have a long lifespan!

I'm not sure what they are called..

I have a small spare TV that has something like that..
A darker part that takes up a part of the right side of or the screen,..but everything shows through it.
You can see it when the screen is black more.

Someone told me it was called a humbar..(??)...
As told:..It happens when something sat to cold or in cold for two long..Capasitors then when turned on from that cold state messes something up.

I'm not sure if that's correct info...but,
The TV hasn't changed for all the years of having it...it still has that same bar.

The TV was bought at a closing Sears warehouse SALE....cheap.
It had sat in the basement on the floor of the cold Sears warehouse for awhile and I bought it during the winter..

Got it home, turned it on and saw that black side ...(oh well)

............................................................................................
I'm not sure if a cap kit will fix that problem ....maybe.

Try running an additional ground wire between the monitor chassis and the mobo.

Perhaps a cap kit would be in order also.

Say on a PCB like a Tekken 3..where should I put that..(((additional ground wire between the monitor chassis and the mobo))))))
..............on the mobo..?

Thanks for the advice, all. I have little experience fooling around with monitors so I will definitely want to do some reading before I tinker with ground wires.

Does anyone have a good link to get me started?

It probably just needs a cap kit. At work we just capped our 2 slot MVS cabinet because the left half of the screen was darker than the right, and colors bled alot. After replacing the caps the monitor looked brand new. If yours is the same monitor as ours(QNIC CGM-2500) it is pretty easy to do a cap kit on.

I have the EXACT same problem. I took my 25' Geo monitor to someone to have it fixed up (it was too dark and had shaking and issues). He fixed up my monitor and it's never looked brighter or better, but now I have those vertical lines (also on the left side of the screen), which only show up on certain backgrounds. I assumed it was monitor burn that only showed up now because my monitor was too dark before, but after hearing Chris I have to wonder if those lines are from my monitor sitting in his garage at near freezing temperatures.

If the monitor its a wells Gardner K7000 25" 15Kz, I have fixed lot of those monitors if you getting vertical bars on left then replace the c57 capacitor on monitor chassis pcb and you will have it fixed.

The monitor is a Wells-Gardner 19K7101 25"....
The link that ttooddddyy provided was excellent and I managed to dig up this flowchart:
http://slot-tech-ftp.serveftp.com:8080/monitors/flowcharts/k7201flo.jpg

The monitor listed is for a k7201(Wells Gardner) but if you look near the bottom of the screen it describes this exact problem in one of the boxes and says changing capacitor #c57, so it looks like mukuro was right.
Thanks for the link ttooddddyy, btw!

Mukuro: I was wondering if you know how this will affect my monitor in the long-term if I leave it untreated?

There are approx 20 odd electro capacitors on most monitors, so its a case of a blanket change of all the caps.

Oh, is it hard to change the caps?

Not if you have some basic soldering skills and a decent iron. I wouldnt recommend it to a complete novice.

It should have no detremental effect imho.

Basically when the tube its ok then all can be easily fixed on Wells monitor, its possible by check the pcb.
WG K7000 series usually mount two different tube one made in USA by Zenith and one made in Germany.
The Zenith tube have wonderfool picture! Also you dont never touch the red, green and blue cut-off controls and also red, blue and green drive controls on neck board because its very very difficult set those controls properly on K7000 monitors.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but Mukuro, since you are familiar with that WG K7000 series monitor, do you know what would cause the monitor to jitter a little bit when something on the screen (like text, or a character's projectile attack) flashes? The jitter only happens near the flashing object. I assume it's just a cap kit that the monitor needs, but I figured I'd ask you since you seem to know a good bit about these monitors. I'm not sure if mine is the k7000 series or not, so I'll have to double check. I do know it's a WG though.

It is called jail baring. A cap kit should fix the problem but to do it you must discharge the monitor. If you don't want the big pop frm the discharge leave the monitor of for a few days before you do it. Have some one there with you just incase you get nocked on you're ass and need CPR.

Leaving the monitor off for a few days won't always help. The CRT can hold a charge for a very long time(I've seen old hold a charge for months). I usually just unplug the game and immediately discharge the monitor and do the cap kit then.
