PSP impressions from Play-Asia

Sony recently held an online auction for 500 PSP systems for charity. Play-Asia won one of these systems and has posted impressions on the system aswell as aload of videos and images.

It seems that when you switch the system on, you choose between english and japanese menu text. Which is cool, because I'm preordering a Jap system and I can't read japanese. :)

The system also includes a demo disc, but it only contains videos. No games are playable.

I think the confirmation that were not all (those preordering from japan) gonna have to learn japanese is cool :). Until they get the games, theres not much else they can test though.

Really beautiful - the videos are pretty good, and the IPL itself looks very nice, has the same X:Y format the PSX IPL has.

Well you'd have to be pretty dumb to not be able to work out that menu even if it was JPN text only. The language select was a given based on the PS2 having the same option. The games will still be JPN though, so I don't see what all this menu talk is actually about.

Gamespot put one up also. I will still wait until the U.S. release because that is just too much to pay for a system.

Id rather have an english menu than have to figure out all the options by trial and error.

Of course the games are gonna be in jap, thats why im only getting games that are not text heavy like Vampire Chronicles and Ridge Racers. I will wait for UK release before picking up games like Metal Gear ACID.

I thought it was some nice info and some cool vids that I would share with ppl here who may also be importing the jap version. Mebbe im just excited about getting it soon. :glee:

Shame they didn't get a playable demo with the system.

I want reports on battery life. :)

Thing sure is purdy though.

Cool article. I took a look when I read your earlier post. More indepth than play asia. I recon play asia may have not mentioned battery life cause they figured they may loose some sales. Im not bothered anyway. Ill just buy a second battery.

Wow, a crapped down version of a PS2... only this one has less power but you can hold it in your hands...

Considering that the DS is a crapped down version of a PlayStation, this actually looks interesting.

Its my opinion, I technically own both systems.

If I wanted to play PS2 games, I'd own a PS2.

"Wow, the screens from Ridge Racer look AMAZING" - The PS2 could blow those away, like I havent seen shit like that before.

Hey, if you want that glorified bullshit in a handheld, enjoy.

I'll stick to my addictive, fun, innovative and graphic lacking DS games.

Aha, but a PS2 isn't portable is it?

I'm just sick of all the hate on both sides. They're completely different handhelds, offering different kinds of entertainment. My DS is on the way, and I have a PSP preorderd for the domestic launch. I'll buy and enjoy both.

I thought you had one pre-ordered?

Personally I don't think either one warrants a purchase, but I will say this about the DS. The Metroid game, using the non-touch-screen controls actually seemed more fun than the GC version, simply because the d-pad controlled movement and the four buttons controlled the look, and L/R did shot/jump.

The only sucky part was that you couldn't change the view controls to un-invert the Y Axis, still it was pretty slick.

LOL the DS mafia are getting worried. Derailing an innocent thread that gave no ill will to the DS.

If the PSP is a crapped down PlayStation 2, then the DS is a crapped down n64. I know which I would rather have. :lol:

Alright it as 2 screens one of which you can touch. Big deal. I'd rather have 1 decent screen and an analogue cpntroller.
