or these were some homeless people.

I'm leaning toward #2.

In what SPOnG believes is a first, gamers in Japan are right now queuing overnight to place pre-orders for the new Sony PSP handheld.

No doubt triggered by the information trickle foretelling miniscule day one availability, placed at below 130,000 units in some reports, people are willing to brave the cold to sign up for a launch console: a truly impressive illustration of demand outstripping supply.

To date, SCEJ has released no information detailing availability of the loss-leading console, though in order to post a decent set of financials this year, limited PSP stocking would be wise. If Sony were to offer enough units to meet demand, the resulting shareholder storm would be somewhat perturbing, to say the least.

This has me worried about the US launch. If they can't supply enough units to the Japanese market through the first of the year, how are they going to launch in March? I smell a delay..

There is no such thing as hobos in Japan!? Well, yeah, maybe a few...but I'd chill and drink a beer with any of them on any given day.

#3- Jethrek's family reunion

Well it's good to see such strong family bonds even in a poverty striken household, or should I say cardboardhold.

I should assume so, but no, these are desperate video game fans.

Or they're hobobs who like to hang out around electronics stores.

Or maybe it's some hobos hanging out with some desperate video game fans.

Sony may just be playing up the "OMG shortage" routine, although I suspect that's not it.

There is no way it will be over here in March.

Fuck, talk about a rushed launch.

Sony may have made a choice between competative pricing and supply.

Which is probably why Nintendo's been so unusually confrontational toward Sony: that could be a win-win situation for Nintendo.

I speculate that 1.5-2% of PSPs are defective.

It just doesnt look fun.

While the PSP fanboys experience wonderful 3D visuals while listening to MP3's on the couch next to an outlet, I'll be concentrating on Mr. Driller, importing Wario Ware and eating up more stars on Mario 64.

What GREAT games.

I think the PSP might start out slow but overall find it's market

You also have to remember, the limited supply game, will make it sought after (and ebay resellers rich)

I wouldn't count them out so fast

I'm not counting Sony out at all, I think they will have a STRONG fanbase.

I think the sytem looks very nice overall.

But its more of a "play at home" handheld

I mean, seriously, how many GBA's GB's GBC's were defective? 5?

I bought a warranty strictly for the touch screen on my DS.

I've been digging, scratching, poking, rubbing the screen and there are NO scratches.

Back to the PSP:

Great screen, great layout, but I just think that more people will be interested in a DS because of portability, durability and playability.

So far, EVERY game on the DS is fun.

It may have had a slow launch, but expect the DS to grow HUGE support, not only is its battery life GREAT, kids and some adults will love the Pictochat feature, the ability to play wirelessly (same goes for the PSP, but you need 2 outlets ;)) and the entire GBA library.

I expect huge innovations to updated classics, such as the case with Mario 64.

Castlevania will be a sight to see.

I know there will be a few games I will like on the PSP, but the DS is the system with my money on it.

If you want to play a portable MGS or GTA, thats great. It will probably be fun.

But how long will you be entertained with that?

How much replay to any of the MGS or GTA games have?

Maybe I have entirely different tastes, but these games were fun at the time, and got boring.

You guys bitch about re-hasing old series:

What is MGS? GTA?

For the hell of it, I'm sure nobody would be pissed to see another Castlevania...

Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Pokemon are FUN!

In a handheld I don't want fancy graphics, suberb sound or MP3 playback.

I just want to pick it up and get right into the game.

If I drop it, I want to pick it up and get right into the game.

Like I said earlier, all of Nintendos systems are built DURABLE and have a track record of NOT breaking.

I'd play a port of Ocarina of Time before I plunked down $50 for another GT, GTA or MGS.

What innovation can the PSP do?

Nothing we havent seen!

Its a graphics powerhouse...

Big deal.

The DS is where its at.

Its OK to touch it :)

Yes I have.

And it was no different than any other system.

You must have the steadiest hands in the world. I tried playing feel the magic and I had to quit in less than a minute. Any game that requires precision and accuracy with the stylus is near impossible in a bumpy car ride.

Well, I guess it only makes sense that a hobo would want to own a portable system, after all.

Wake me up when either the DS or PSP gets a game that really excites me. Sprung is the only game that has actually caught my eye, so far.

PS: Anyone play the new Kingdom Hearts game for the GBA yet? :D
