Any windows xp experts in here? I am trying to install a wireless router, but when I get towards the end of my installation I keep getting an error message to disable my security and virus software. Before I call support back I wanted to try and install it myself. So can someone give me some advice other than the obvious. When I disable my virus software it still doesn't work. I can't figure out what else I need to diasable. The support guy told me it was windows XP. Something about the security of it was really good, and even installing a simple router wasn't that easy. They want me to call the windows xp experts, but the call isn't free and I don't know how long it will take. Thanks

Do you have SP1/2 installed? If so disable the firewall!

Control Panel> Network connections > Right Click your Active Network card > Properties > Advance > Windows Firewall > Click settings > Turn it off .....

Man,

I just went through the same damn problem, although I was trying to get Kai XLink to work for me on my Windows XP + SP2 w/ D-link 624 wireless router. It took me a few days to finally get it to work correctly. This what I had to do, although you might not want to go through with it?

1. Turn off your xp firewall + third party firewall if you have one.

2. Unistall your anti virus program & Delete the files (burn the program to a cd)

3. Install wireless router software & configure your router. Make sure it has a IP address inline with your modem & computer.

4. Re-Install your anti virus program, configure it to have exceptions for whatever ports your router & apps need.

5. Turn your firewall back on and configure exceptions for whatever ports your router & apps need. Set your security settings to medium as well.
From there, XP will take it from there, it will probably ask if you want to block or unblock the wireless router? I just unblocked it when the prompt came up. Now I have my firewall up and the router & apps I run have full access.

It was very frustrating and my friends & I kept at it until we finally got it working great! Before that, I would have to disable my anti virus & firewalls to get it to work at all. There are plenty of forums to look at, I will try to get you the links I saw, it was broadband something? They had support for just about every wireless router out there.
