They don't look very different at first glance. The screen is recessed slightly, and that's about it. I'll try to get some photos of mine tomorrow, but my camera is a bit rubbish at close-ups.

the screen seems a tiny bit bigger

its not .. its just the way its 'set' in the design

the sound goes .. way .. way louder than the original too

buy one - a nice piece of kit and you wont be dissapointed.

Here are two photos I scanned of the NGPC Slimline clear, the one I sold a few months ago:

If you keep your eyes peeled, you can sometimes pick up on a good deal, but they run on average anywhere from $45 to $65 (before shipping). It's definitely a great console to have, and NGPCs have incredible longevity. I have yet to come across any that had dead pixels, at least not noticeable, if there were any they'd be on the very perimeter that's invisible.

I got mine as part of a bundle with 9 games, and then sold 7 of the games for more than I paid for the whole lot. :)

Haven't taken any photos yet, sorry. Got a cold and don't feel like doing much.

I've taken them now. :)

I threw in a few other devices for comparison, but sadly my camera and my ability as a photographer have let me down a bit. :) The slimline is the camo blue one.

The easiest way to tell a slimline from the front is the recessed border around the screen, I think.

None of my NGPCs have ever had any problems with the buttons, and I have had a few others that I have sold on, as well as the three in the picture. Then again, I haven't had any problems with any other handheld, either.
