Mr. Driller Help!

Is there a strategy in this?

I can't beat China, only 800M...

I either run out of air or get squashed.

Yes, I know that those are the two ways to die, but its actually very difficult for me.

When you drill out a block one of those animals appera, does it do anything?

There are rock shaped things, do they do something special?

And the flashing block, does it do anything?

I can but powerups, but it won't keep track of my score if I use them.

So wtf is a good way to go?

Take my time and gather air?

Go fast and grab as much air as I go?

I'm going to smash soon.

Step one: Play Japan over and over again and earn enough cash to buy power ups.

Step two: Constantly zig-zag down to screen and you will increase your odds of avoiding getting squashed.

Step 3: Get squashed.

I beat the 800m within an hour of first powering up the system. I didn't even know you could buy powerups until I read this thread

You get Puchi (the dog) for beating 800m and he can climb up a two block height.

I tried to like this game, but ended up returning it and getting Ridge Racer DS. Just seemed kinds boring to me. Probably just didn't spend enough time on it though. Maybe I'll get the Jap version, with the extra levels and the DS pouch later if it pops up on eBay cheaper sometime.
