so now that Kerry's lost the election, can the right give up the rosey colored glasses and admit our economy has a problem?

During Thursday, the dollar reached yet another record low against the euro, a five-year trough against Japan's currency of less than 102 yen, and its lowest level against the pound since before sterling was kicked out of Europe's exchange rate mechanism in September 1992.

This is indeed some great news. Our Canadian dollar is the highest since Bill Clinton took office in 1992. Maybe by the time George Bush is done in 2008 Canadian and American dollars will go 1 for 1. Just in the past month or so our dollar has gone up more than a nickle.

Shit man, THE ECONOMY has sucked for a decade or more. No big news flash there. And it's hardly because Kerry lost. It might be good for some ppl, but most I know have stuggled for years at penny ante jobs... and those are the chums with degrees in this or that.

Near the end of Bill Clinton's second term the Canadian Dollar was trading at around 67 cents US. Now we are above 85 cents. American items seem so cheap now.

-our economy has not sucked for a decade or more.
-no one implied or said it's because Kerry lost. The question is if the right can even acknowledge there's a problem. How many posts by JHendrix did we see explaining how great everything was during the election? Things aren't, and we all know it. But is the right able to untangle itself fromt he propoganda that it was fine?

The economy sucks if you're one of the people not making money.
I'm in the best financial cond. of my life as we speak, it's been a steady trend upwards over the last 4 years.

Money isn't ever lost, just a shift in who's getting it.

Well I'm on THE RIGHT, and I'm admitting there's a problem with the economy. And I don't know where you live, but here in SATX if you're not in the military, a teacher, in the medical feild or a lawyer... OR of course working for USAA, then you're probably in retail of some sort, or another shitty job working like a dog to make ends meet, and if you live nicely it's because most now a days don't mind taking more handouts from the government. I always hear that More jobs are out there, YEAH, $6.75 - $7.50 an hour jobs maybe, but nothing that would let a man really look himself in the mirror... and this after ppl have gotten bank loans and shit, and put themselves $30,000 + in debt to higher education institutions only to find out they may as well have saved their money because the waiting list for what they want is years off, so it's Burger King for a lot of degree holders.

I personally don't have that problem because I've always been "self sufficient" and always find a way for people to need my services be it Bouncing in a club, doing lawn service {which pays better than most think}, doing freelance security specialism / Advisory etc. *That does not mean there isn't a problem. THING IS THOUGH, while I've had quite a number of ppl talk smack to me about: Heh, heh... you were doing that guy's lawn a few weeks back! that same bastid is the one who absuses the welfare system, and I'm an idiot for actually not taking hand outs of any kind {when I could, espeically on the Bipolar thing, but don't} because a man is only worth his integrity and honor. But NOOOOO, we've got a generation + of fuck offs. How'd they get that way? Well I wonder which side's platforms always want to press for more government handouts? It sure as shit ain't the right. The bottom line is, the enconomy isn't all it's cracked up to be, and with each generation thinking they are OWED something it'll only get worse. The #1 problem is that no one wants to really enter the "Blue Collar" workforce anymore, or at least look down their nose at it.

*Not everyone is made for college, and that has nothing to do with the intelligence either. I know pleanty of ppl who are just as smart if not smarter than their white collar counterparts, but they're like me. Too much wanderlust and liking to work with their hands. But our educational system isn't about educating our kids and showing them the many avenues of work available to them... it's about hounding our children into consumeristic sheep, making the principals of a school with test scores look good, and brainwashing them to think that anything other than a job in the white collar feilds is a bad thing. ---I mean, we're always going to need Sanitation Workers, Plumbers, Policemen, Fire Fighters, etc. Yet all I ever hear now is kids stating: "I'm going to work for Donald Trump. I'm going to do such and such." all the while acting like an ass towards someone else who isn't doing what they think is paramount to livng, yet themselves have no work ethics and no honor. Thus if we want the economy to be better, then maybe we should start at the bottom where our kids are stripped of their individuality and taught to be a fuckin' money leach with little to no ethics, and where kids are not educated at all but processed.

You, sir, are an economic remedial.

See, if one of the major countries pulled their assets out of the dollar on the basis it was no longer worth it, the dollar would plummet. We'd see mass inflation, and all those dollars you're happily making would become fairly worthless.

But you're the kind of reject asshole who doesn't really care until its his head on the chopping block. More Americans are making less, and our currency is flailing far beneath what it should be worth. Consumer spending is down according to many retailer.

These aren't good things for anybody.

The only reason the weak ass dollar affects me is because I like to buy shit from Japan. Even though I'm getting my R2 DVDs from Hoteiya LV/Dash no Chris, I still get fucked with crappy exchange rates. It's the lowest the dollar's been since I can remember it affecting me. The highest Yen to Dollar I can remember was something like 113 Yen to 1 USD. Fuckers need to fix this shit.

The real problem is that they (the administration) don't care. I read an article where they were talking about how we've had a "strong dollar policy" in place, and it went from meaning strong in terms of the exchange rate, now they've changed the meaning to be "not easy to counterfeit." Beautiful.

Fuck this administration in it's goat ass.

No seriously its good... for the few companies still exporting tfrom the US (Boeing and friends) but for all of us who depends on goods coming from abroad its terrible.

I was planning of hiring someone this year but because I am curretnly losing about 25% margin due to exhange rate that money goes into the banks instead of someone who could help me develop my business.
Had the Euro / Dollar be closer to 1.1 / 1 I'd have hired someone in July.

Paul O'Neill said it best when he went on the record to say that our government isn't endorsing "what we call a strong dollar policy."

Poor chap lost his job because he wasn't afraid to speak on data and facts instead of the current ideologues that seem to have hijacked the administration.

I remember when I first started buying on-line during 2000-2001, when 1$=1.2€
But now it is 1€=1.3$ :buttrock:

So I guess you would love to pay 30% more for petrol, right?

For your information, the € is not so strong now, is the $ what is shit. It's up to the yankees to solve it, not to the europeans.

Oh, and I don't buy import ps2 games, I just download them :kekeke:

well, actual cost of gas has NOTHING to do with the dollar value

at least here in this shitty country

doesnt matter if 1 E = 1 USD or 1 E = 34 USD

the gas cost always goes up and up and up

Well, I agree the gas always goes up,. When the oil rises, gas rises because of it. However, when oil goes down gas' price stays the same. :envy:
They keep repeating (at least here) that thanks to the fact that the $ is low, and the oil is usually traded in $, the effects of the oil price increase due to Iraq is not affecting Europe as bad as it would with a weaker € respect the $.
And notice that gas price is not the only effect of the price of the oil. All our fucking economy is still depending on oil.

So what do you suggest I do ?
Write a letter to Congress ?
I'm sure bitching about the economy on a video game forums gets alot of results.

In all honesty for the american economy this isn't that bad. It makes american products cheaper for the international community so america will get a lot of money coming in.

Good for the companies that export. Bad for the companies that have to import.

Obviously, is the opposite here in Europe: this is good for importing companies (not only goods from USA, lots of economical areas and goods depend a lot on the US$), but very bad for the exporting ones. Anyway, I am quite sure Europe in general imports much more than exports.

Sorry, should I call you "gringos"? :D

Seriously, I try not to call you "americans" because that includes ALL the continent. I guess the correct would be "US people" as you don't have a specific name as far as I know. In Spanish it would be "estadounidenses" :kekeke:
