I shoulda' known better than to buy something as hyped as this new U2 album was. But i believed that they couldn't really go wrong. Theres only a couple of decent songs on here and thats it. I maybe jumping the gun though. I have other cds that i didn't fully appreciate when i 1st listened to them and after 3 or 4 more times i came to like the songs that sucked the 1st time thru. I really liked they're prior album All that you can't leave behind.

Not only did i buy the cd but i took DOOR # 2 and spent the additional six bux for the cd w/ teh dvd bonus of 5 videos + documentary. As i said before, i may be jumping the gun in saying this but i think U2's over the hill.

Anyone else feel the same, different, indifferent, waste of time reading this post? :loco:

I could have told you that, and I haven't even listened to it. U2 has sucked for...well, forever.

I stopped listening to Bono and his crew about the time the released She Moves In Mysterious Ways in '92. Favorite album was "The Joshua Tree", and watching them preform on SNL awhile back made my ears bleed. It's hard to believe that women still get all juiced for old Bono, but there they were on SNL when he went into the crowds... juicy lucys. I'm just waiting for the dude to pop something out of joint while gyrating on stage.

U2's a very decent band, but they haven't made anything absolutely great in a long time. I'll always love War though...such a great fucking album.

Still a band I'd love to see live. Was supposed to go to the show at Sun Devil Stadium where they filmed Rattle And Hum but it didn't work out.

I downloaded The Sweetest Thing this morning and listened to it more times than I should.

Instead of the new album, I'd try to get the 80-90 best of.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

was their best song

I like some of their song off of Joshua Tree

Other than that, I think they're an OK band with a few notable hits

Oh please, stop hating on U2. You guys wouldn't know great music if it kicked you in the ass.

:: proceeds to download "The Complete U2" off of iTunes to put on shiny new U2 iPod ::

BAH.

All that you can't leave behind was just AWFUL.

This album isn't great but at least it's better.

POP is so underrated it is sickening.

...But Roker's right about SBS, that is unlikely to be matched.

Yeah, definitely where there best stuff is at. U2, for me at least, is just one of those bands you don't readily admit to enjoying. A guilty pleasure i suppose.

I just think there new stuff isn't so good, i did enjoy its a beautiful day (or whatever its called) on their last album, but then again i'm a sucker for pop shit (/me hides his Britney albums).

I never liked U2 - My feeling that Bono is pompus and fake aside, I think that this is one band that seem to write the same song over and over again.
If the Smiths and or The Pixies hadn't split up, its safe to say U2 would not be the "biggest band in the world"

I thought the Vertigo single was quite great, a return to something at least enjoyable rather than their bland recent stuff.

Other than that, Discotque, New Years Day & the Acthung Baby album (Eno) is all you will really need.

Thought the song they did for a Batman movie was rather good too.

Bah I hate it when bands keep on releasing albums long after their peak.

Their last cd sucked ass, I won't even bother to listen to this one, since after releasing such crap, I'm SURE that they last their touch.

Amusing, as when I bought Sufer Rosa (personally, didn't find it as great as I was told) a sticker on the shrink wrap (covering the boobage) proclaimed them to be the "Greatest band in the world."

The quote was attributed to Bono.

U2 simply cannot amount to the wholesome band that is The Pixies. I can't stand how Bono thinks he is the biggest thing on this Earth. That band is all about hype. What a fucking joke.

I stopped liking U2's work after the mid 80's. Too mainstream.

And that fucking Hello Hello Hola song... Why the hell does he sing, "Uno, Dos, Tres, catorse"? In english he's counting "1, 2, 3, 14". Doesn't 4 come after 3? :help:

I never get this problem with metal bands. Probably on of may reasons why 99% of the music I own is metal.

Okay this leads to another aspect of u2's shitty-ness.
Brian Eno, who without, U2 would surely be in the where are they now eighties wasteland.
Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois are the other reason U2 succeeded as they did, the other reason being that the competition just dissapeared.
All the really great bands either split up or made stupid career moves that secured U2's place. I mean all that was left was U2 and REM?

The other thing that always bothered me was how U2 seemed to be ripping of Echo and The Bunnymen's sound. The Bunnymen were far superior to U2 and came first, but somehow it ended up this way.
The Smiths were better than U2 - Johnny Marr compared to "The Edge" is like apples and oranges. U2 must have been over the fucking moon when the Smiths broke up, cause they knew that The Smiths were better.
Even Suede, if Bernard Butler hadn't left, They would have ended up surpassing U2, this is a medicore band, that had the help of TWO brilliant producers and A LOT of luck. The fact the Bono believes his own hype and acts in such an insulting way with all his so-called humanitarian efforts, just makes all the more depressing.

 99% of the thread.

U2 have made incredibly good music off and on. some of their older tracks kick the shit out of 90s rock music be it 'brit pop' or 'alternative' (2 genres I particularly like).
