Ever since Star Blazers, and Voltron I've been a huge Anime fan. Being a comic book fan these were full motion comic book stories. Over the last 2 years or so I haven't been really keeping up with what's new like I used to. I always thought that Anime movies were of better quality than most live action movies...... Anyway.

Here's my top 5

Street Fighter the Movie Jap. Uncut Version: Brilliant all around. The Music, Art, Animation, Fight Choregraphy. I go back and watch this more than any of my other Anime films. (The American version imo is inferior. The music sux!)

Ninja Scroll: Excellent, all around also.

Fist of the North Star: Good story, very good fights, and had some good humor in it as well.

Vampire Hunter D 1: This is the movie that got me into Anime real serious.

Dagger/Blade of Kamu: Similar to Ninja Scroll. Good fights.

Honorable Mention:

Black Lion: Very good Ninja Anime, short though, like only 50 minutes long.

Wicked City: You could pretty much call this a porno mutant action anime, but it had a really good story and great action. There was a live action version of this movie with a different name that came out in Japan. It was incredibly cheesey though.

Anime fans, share your opinions.

Arcadia of my Youth
---Origin {one of the many, but made in '82} story of Leiji Matsumoto's Captain Harlock. *Tale of heroism and triumph in the face of adversity in the year 2977 when Earth has been occupied by the Illmidas Empire. Only Harlock, Tochiro and a small band of others have the heart to say a big "Fuck You" to the powers that be and rebel. Awesome orchestral soundtrack with a emotional story.

JIN-ROH: The Wolf Brigade
---Set in an alternate post WWII Japan, Mamoru Oshii's Kerberos Panzer Cops origin story as told through the eyes of another. It makes the most sense of the Panzer Cop stories {though the 6-part manga is nice} has one of the most involving yet contrived stories I've seen in a long while, and is all hand drawn animated to prefection. It's pacing is more Blade Runner than Star Wars, and the dudes in the "Protect Gear" {see my avatar} are fuckin' wicked. *Nice twist on the classic story of little red riding hood too. ---Members of an elite unit within a unit play a game of cat & mouse with another division who'd like to disband the controversial police unit of heavily armed cops.

Princess Mononoke
---My favorite of Hayo Miyazaki's works. *No descrption is needed.

GREY: Digital Target
---Early 90's movie based on the manga. Interesting tale of a man who must slaughter his way to redemption and in being a "Citizen" in a world where war is fought on a daily basis against other provinces in a video game like fashion, if they survive long enough to make CLASS "A" they become citizens and no longer have to fight and live lavishly. *Of course there's a fine print to it all, and the ending had me grinning from ear to ear.

Ninja Scroll {Jubei ninpucho}

Dagger of Kamui {Kamui no Ken}

That's all that comes to mind for now.
