This thread is the Official College Basketball thread. Official. (I don't mean those shitty refs)

Large game on tonight, #1 Wake Forest vs #3 Illinois, battle of top teams with great guards. Should be a good one.

What'cha talkin' 'bout, Willis?

You got plenty of college hockey on now. Then again, I get Fox Sports North so I see Gopher games all the time... Who knew that Minnesota-North Dakota was a really serious rivalry? (serious enough to end up in the NY Times).

College hockey is the only place the Ivy League schools can actually compete in D-1 and win (sure they can compete in B-Ball, but they're more like token teams in the tourney, Princeton's famous round-1 upset of UCLA not withstanding)

This year's making me nervous. Arizona seems to lack a killer instinct. We got worked by Virginia, and then while the 3-pt loss to Wake Forest was what the tournament committee would call a 'quality loss', it still sucks. UA is usually invincible in November.

Every empire's gotta fall sometime, and quite honestly, I'd trade a quality hoop team for a quality football team anyday.

Well, continuing the tradition laid out by Duke, Indiana, WF and 'Zona -their BBall team makes up for their cellar dwellar Football.

bah i need real cable tv, not the leftovers from splicing roadrunner into the tv. no espn is ok for football (pro), but won't cut it for college hoops.

oh, and ACC is still the best conference around. 7-2 in the challenge, what!

The same Tarheels that lost to Santa Clara? :kekeke:

We didn't have our point guard but no excuses, we used that game as a wake up call. Besides Raymond Felton > Dee Brown. Rashad McCants > than the whole Illinois team.

The knock about Illinois was that last year they never played D and they had no inside game. So far this year looks like they took care of those issues. They also have a deep bench. Anyone of the starters can go down for a while and they will still contend unlike UNC that choked without their "star" player. Illinois has a lot of upperclassmen with NCAA tourney experience. They will most likely be the #1 seed in the ST Louis bracket which is going to be a home court advantage since in years past they always got screwed into playing in the west.

Our bench is deep too just not at the point guard position, and if Dee Brown went down with an injury Illinois would be in the same boat.

Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking UNC but everything you bring up about Illinois is from last year. Last year they went through a coaching change and the players admitted they were bitter about Self leaving and did not want to buy into the new program until late in the year. This is not the same team.
