First of all, such a version does NOT exist, as many of us are aware of that. But how many of us have seen the actual US Saturn cover of D&D? If you have a complete copy of US Street Fighter Alpha ONE, you can.

On a Capcom phamplet, there it is. US cover of D&D. It says "Dungeons & Dragons Tower of Doom." Here is the description:

"From its conquest of the arcades, Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom brings it all to your home. In the world of wizards, mazes, monsters, and mayhem, earn weapons and magic with your gameskill and wits. With one to four players able to join in at any time, there are 24 different attack maneuvers, more gameplay than the arcade version and a story that unfolds differently every time you play. Pick your character and explore the D&D world."

Dang... four players... too bad they didn't do it in the D&D Collection (I still don't get why they took the 4 player mode out). Sure, the US version was slated apparently NOT to include Shadow Over Mystaria (sp?) but 4 players? I think I just might take this over JP D&D Collection 2 player. It'd also have been in english... maybe with good load times too. I don't know. *shrugs*

I just know my jaw dropped when the first thing I saw as I opened the SFA manual was this ad... I never saw or even heard about this before. Just wanted to share this with everyone. :)

PS- there are two screenshots, one showing a 4 player energy panel with english text "you hear screams from up ahead." Too bad Capcom never got this baby out.

I'm willing to bet that was just an arcade screenshot and not something from the Saturn dev system.

Agreed. Still, a nice little piece of collector's item... :p (also on the phamplet are Buster Brothers Collection and FoxHunt)

Yea, seems Sega and the 3rd party developers lost interest (or just plain sucked) after the Saturn declined in popularity here in the States. It would have been nice to have a 4 player version. I myself have the Jap D&D collection and I've learned to just know what each of the choices mean and where they lead me. Oh well, what Capcom of U.S. didn't do, MAME will.

Interesting stuff, did Capcom put their own games out in the USA.

I'm quite suprised they were gonna bring this out, in the UK Virgin published all Capcom games (on PSX too) and X-Men vs Streetfighter + ram cart got to the review stages ( Official Saturn Mag), its rediculous it didnt actually come out :crying:

Europe, most notably France and Italy were much more into anime that time than US. And Sega as a whole were much popular there, I think.

The Xbox thing looks like a manuever to try to make the box more popular there. halo 2 is a system seller for the box.

Yeah, I found it unusual that they removed the 4-player ability. It's still very fun in 2 thanks to some clever dynamics of the game. (And some very interesting level of detail, for an arcade game. (In terms of natural species/race based resistances, immunities, and particulars of items/weapons/and spells)) Let's just say Capcom did their D&D homework, when it came to the games in the collection.

Maybe they had issues converting it down to the Home Television screen (I wasn't sure if they used special monitors for those or not). But given the many delays for the title to come out, the various cancellations and such(A PSX version was planned, at one time), I would say the decision was made in just getting the game out the door. Regardless of being a little long on the load times, I would say the ports were rock solid (for 2-player, at least). And the 2nd game was surprisingly long.

Not many units of this game were ever made, but the real shame is that there's little demand for the game. Heck, if demand rose a little, the game would be way expensive, by now. Still, I don't get it. I still consider the AD&D collection to be one of Capcom's greatest sidescrolling beat-em-ups of all time. A genuine classic. As far as I'm concerned, those little extra seconds of load time does not do enough to tarnish such a gem from the demand it deserves. On the other hand, it could be that possibly not enough people know about it, and the potential buyers are just unaware of its existance.
