I got a real kick out of the first movie and was utterly disappointed with the second, but this time they have Christopher Lambert back... All RIGHT!

Sure it'll probably suck, but for nostalgia's sake I had to start a thread.

The Director this time around is the guy who made Highlander 1 and 2, Ricochet, just did that silly nascar movie on ESPN (I think its called "3").

Apparently Johnny Cage will be back, too -same actor as the first film. Same actor for Scorpion, too.

its schedule for release some time next year...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293429/ [edit, added this IMDB link I forgot to list]

Hopefully the soundtrack will be good.

The first movie was really fun. Don't see a need for a third installment, but heck I'll give it a rental.

Well it'll probably be better then the crap coming out now. The first one was really good though. Anybody know the plot or other characters in it?

Yeah the first one was alright, the second one sucked... but Why a third one all these years later? If they are they need to make the movies RIGHT. Meaning to do it right it have to be NC-17. That always pissed me off about the movies, they didn't dare go the fatality route at all, and that was what Mortal Kombat was all about... XXXtreme violence. *I did prefer Lynden Ashby as Johnny Cage over the guy who played him in #2, but I like the chick who played SONIA in the sequel better.

Out of morbid curiousity I'll see it, I mean it can't be any worse than the last 2 Matrix films and what Boy George Lucas did to STAR WARS.

they could make such a cool mk movie if they get the fuck rid off all this kiddie shit make it adult-only maybe some porn scenes and just go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay fucking overboard with the violence. im talking ripped limbs, decapitation, blood baths, tearing out intestines etc. and no cg all done old school FX.

but i bet we get some bullshit story with bullshit acting that has nothing to do with MK that nobody gives a shit about. no thx.

and i thought everyone like johnny cage and sonya etc died in the 1st or 2nd movie? never saw pt 2 so i dunno.

I grew up on Mortal Kombat and the first film was one of my favs. The second one was evil, I wish it was never made. Had they done it properly, following the story line it could have been cool, but instead they merged MK 2 and 3 making a totally off canon movie. Raiden is Shao Khans brother? WTF?

The first one was good because we were kids.

I don't know what to think. The first one was great, hell I watched it the other night because it was on the Starz Action Channel. I thaught the story was alright and the fights were also really cool.

I just hope it won't be like the second one were they tried to put too many characters in and just had them die after a three minute fight.

I'd like to see it but I'll wait for the reviews, from the fans.

BINGO!

The first one is terrible (but, sadly, probably one of the best video-game -> film translations yet) and the second one is unwatchable, and this is from someone who saw the original in the theater twice.

Double Dragon, on the other hand, rules the planet (they're brothers... but one of them is Hawaiian, and the other is about as white as you can get without being dead... and Alyssa Milano crawls through air ventilation ducts on her hands and knees).

When will they ever learn...

Video games DO NOT make good movies, especially when it's Boon and Tobias in charge of your movie's mythology. Oh well, late night cable will get yet one more turd to air at 3:30 am.

the first one was pretty decent. mk 1 with some of mk 2 meshed in the first movie was good and some of the interpetations of the characters was intresting. but the mk 2 moive was like an mk trilogy to mk 4 and it was up their with street fighter in my book. chances are they'll probably make the mk 5 and mk 6 storyline and put that in motion. it can't be any worse than the last one right?

I must be the only person on the planet who prefers the second movie. The first movie was almost halfway good. That made it hard to watch. The second movie is so unforgivingly bad that I thought it was fun. It wasn't even good enough for direct-to-video, yet someone had the nuts to release it in theatres. Awesome. The part where that one guy stands on a rock and punches air where they would later add in the least believeable CG monster in movie history is great. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I guess if I was a fan of the games at all, I'd probably hate both of them.

MK 1 was good.

But I think a much better videogame to make a movie on would be Silent Hill.

I mean, before holly rips off on the series any more.

Bobak, you mean this silly NASCAR movie? Of course, I'm all over it like Darlington Stripes on a car that finished the Southern 500. The more I watch those previews ESPN's running ad nauseam, the more I think Berry Pepper looks like a decent Dale Earnhardt. Props to ESPN for getting all the sponsors and such on the cars and tracks looking accurate.

Oh, the third Mortal Kombat movie? Loved the first, never saw the second, I hope the third is good.

Games based on movies suck
Movies based on games suck even harder
But games based on movies based on games suck the hardest (SF:TM, Double Dragon: Neo Geo)

Meh, I'm really not excited at all about this one. Like another poster mentioned, it just seems silly for them to tone down the violence to PG-13 on a movie based on one the most violent video games made. Couple that with the fact that MK is pretty much unknown these days and you've got a recipe for disaster. But then again, who in their right mind would believe that this would be a success?

Johnny Cage was totally hillarious (in a cheesy way) in part 1. :buttrock:

I would quote the movie but I'm sure you guys remember most of the funny lines. :)

You're in luck: Jacob's Ladder (as close as they'll ever come). And the movie came out first; how spooky is that?

Yeah i mean some video games would make great movies, Silent Hill for example, even Metal Gear if it were an Anime. Hollywood movies though tend to suck, so im not expecting anything good from this, its gonna come down to advertisement more than feature film in my eyes.

There is a severe lack of boss fights in Jacob's Ladder.
