Just wondering what serials peoples AES's are and accordingly what connection do you use to the TV and how would you describe your quality?

Im looking at getting a AES with a serial in the 250,000 range and on the chart (someone around here) it states that "A" grade quality is gained in this range by using a composite, So I've just bought a MK1 Megadrive lead here Sega Mega Drive 1 AV 5 Pin DIN Tv Connector Im hoping this will give a good enough quality but would be intrested to see what other people are using :)

Cheers Olly

You're reading the chart incorrectly: it says that a given signal in a given serial number range is better than the SAME signal in a different range. There's no doubt that RGB is ALWAYS better than composite, no matter the serial. Basically, if you are in Europe and not using an RGB scart cable you're not getting the best out of your console. However if the serial is in the 250,000 range the RGB output will be bad. Luckily it can be corrected with a mod.

Well thats a bummer :( Phix on here said that the best output I'd get with that serial will be with composite so thats what I bought. Im probably getting 2.0 Bios installed so may just see if the same person can do the RGB mod aswell..

Cheers for the head's up though..

Still would like to see what other people are using :)

S-video.

Fantastic picture - although Component, or RGB may be better, I'm completely satisfied with the picture quality. It looks absolutely outstanding on my 40" Sony Wega XBR, which can upscan the signal to progressive.

Got the AES today.. Picture looks fine with the standard AES white/yellow cable :)

With the item I bought (above) will it output sound from both speakers or still just one?

Cheers Olly

The sound will be mono. If you want stereo sound you can do a couple of things to achieve it.
1) Have the stereo mod installed
2) Run a cable from the headphone jack to your TV.....this is the cheap way to do it. :)

Well I got the cable and today and tried it out and... It works!

Sound is coming from both speakers and the picture quality is minted :D

I played on my new copy of Ghost Pilots great fun for £17! :mr_t:

56,XXX Jap. I have it connected with an RGB cable to an XRGB2 Plus which upscans the signal to VGA.

The picture is the best you can get out of an AES.
