Is analog RGB the same as Scart RGB "know the cord plugs are different", because I notice that Sharp has started selling Televisions in the US that have a 15 pin RGB input. :spock:

SCART is the type of connector. The SCART (Peritel in France) standard allows for RGB, Svideo or composite video on the same connector, both inputs and outputs.

Nothing uses Digital RGB anymore. DVI and other digital standards for computers aren't really the same thing. Digital RGB, such as the old pre-VGA standard EGA, is a dead thing.

All game consoles that output RGB output analogue RGB. Unless otherwise noted all monitors use analogue RGB, and this includes arcade monitors, studio monitors and VGA monitors.

I understand that input is the same as the ones used in regular PC VGA monitors, so it is intended to use it with a computer. I assume you are asking if it would be possible to hook an arcade board that ouputs RGB (such as a MVS) directly to a TV through this connector, in the same way we Europeans do with scart.

I am no expert on this (so take this with a grain of salt, and I hope that if say anything incorrect somebody will correct it), but I think it depends on if the TV supports low-res (15kh horizontal frequence) through this connector. In that case it *should* work. Regular PC monitors only accept hi-res (31kh) RGB signal, so you can't use them directly with regular arcade boards unless you use an upscan convertor.

i've also been wondering about something simelar (spelling :spock: )
was thinking if its possible to hook a NG up via a 15pin D-Sub (vga connector) to either a lcd tv or a projector (almost certain that the projector will work)
my main concern is the lcd (hdtv) tv
any help would be appreciated

Amano is correct in saying that the input on the TV or monitor has to accept the interlaced RGB signal from the Neogeo as that is all it can output.

I have a Sony HDTV that can accept a 15Khz RGB signal into it's RGBHV input (RGBHV is also like VGA, but has 5x RCA connectors instead of a D-sub) and because in my case the TV needs separate H & V syncs and the Neogeo only outputs a composite sync, I had to split the sync by means of a simple sync separater circuit.

Have a look here

You will have to check first whether your set can accept the 15Khz input on the VGA plug. Most probably the manual won't help so in this case, try it and see what happens.

So more or less to get this
aes_boxed_os_no_manual.jpg

to work on it, I would have to get this
rgb_cable.jpg

and this

Thanks I am glad that some one finely cleared it up for me. So what is the different in a Jap and Euro scart plug, just the pin configuration? :spock: And so are those RGB monitors like MASS sells more or less low res VGA monitors? :spock:

Well, you would need all that if you were trying to use the AES in a regular PC monitor only compatible with hi-res. If your TV accepts low-res through that connector, you might be lucky and it may work. In that case you would need to buy/build a cable that connects the AES av port to the VGA port in your TV that respects the pin-outs. However you might have some trouble with:

"and because in my case the TV needs separate H & V syncs and the Neogeo only outputs a composite sync, I had to split the sync by means of a simple sync separater circuit."

so you would need to do that extra trick.
