You can still play it on your supergun even though you will only be able to use 2 players right?

You can also get mono sound off the JAMMA connector.

But aside from only having 2 players, you only see 1/2 the screen. The 6 player Xmen board had 2 video outputs to drive 2 monitors to create an 8:3 aspect ratio.

Wow,Thanks for that Rez, I have a X-men board and see only half a horizontal scan, I put it down to some kind of strange rendering problem- live and learn- thats what I love about this forum. The mame version looks 4:3, whats the story there ? is there a soft dip setting to accomodate a two player game. Otherwise I might hook up a couple of cabs to get this baby going

Old Taito games such as Darius and Ninja Warriors will have 3 video outputs then, since they used 3 monitors in a row.

I notice the X-Men 4 player dedicated cab has one monitor, is it possible to switch the 6 player board version to 2 or 4 player config (Ive just moved house and can not locate the board to experiment)

I have the manual for the 6 player version, and it doesn't mention any way to change the setup. Since the PCB has 2 sets of the same video hardware used on the 2/4 player Xmen PCB's I doubt there's a way to disable it.

The version in MAME is only the 2/4 player versions. The 6 player version doesn't work because no one has "wired up" the twin video hardware.

I shall try to locate the board tonight, at the time I tried it out (and assumed it was faulty untill your advice), I didnt notice anything different about the board in terms of rgb connection on the jamma edge connect, seemed like standard jamma- im hoping there is a way to convert it for 2/4 players on one monitor. Maybe a rom swap ?

I'm pretty sure you can convert a 4 player X-Men board to a 2 player version with a rom swap, but the 6 player version uses a different style of board, so I'm 99% sure you can't change it. People on the RGVAC newsgroup have asked about changing the 6 player board into a 4 or 2 player and they've been told it can't be done.

As a side note, I'm working on a deal to get a 6 player x-men for $500. :drool_2: Not a bad price for one in good shape and working.

The board has a connector for the 2nd video output. AFAIK it can't be changed to a single screen board, but it can't hurt to toss in the 4 player program ROM and see what happens...

You can see the extra rgb socket for the second monitor here

The mame rom sets are listed as
US6 player
065ucb04.10d
065ucb05.10f
xmen17g.bin
xmen17j.bin
065-a01.6f

xmen1h.bin
xmen12l.bin
xmen17l.bin
xmen22h.bin
xmen22l.bin
xmenc25.bin

US4 player
065ubb04.10d
065ubb05.10f
xmen17g.bin
xmen17j.bin
065-a01.6f
xmen1l.bin
xmen1h.bin
xmen12l.bin
xmen17l.bin
xmen22h.bin
xmen22l.bin
xmenc25.bin

World2 player

065aaa04.10d
065aaa04.10f
xmen17g.bin
xmen17j.bin

xmen1l.bin
xmen1h.bin
xmen12l.bin
xmen17l.bin
xmen22h.bin
xmen22l.bin
xmenc25.bin

I rekon if 065ucb04.10d and 065ucb05.10f are substituted with 065aaa04.10d and 065aaa04.10f program roms, theres a good chance the board will run on a single monitor- will try it out and keep you posted.

I have a 4 player board and it plays fine 2P in my candy cab. I know this wasn't the question but it seems to have drifted into the topic.
