DS displays are in stores - Just tried the DS

My local EB received their DS display units today and I spent a few minutes trying Metroid Prime.

The unit itself is nicely designed except that once again the action buttons are made for 3 year old hands - however I felt that the directionnal buttons was better than the GBA one (as in bigger).

Graphically it is quite impressive compared to anything I have seen with my own eyes (GBA SP, PC Engine... and other but not the PSP) and pixelation is almost unoticeable. The screens are both of exceptionnal quality, a big step up from the GBA.

The game itself looks good (I wished for a bigger screen) but control acclimatation can take some time, the good thing is that you can chose between 6 or 7 different control type (left handed, right handed, with touchscreen, no touchscreen, and so on).

Interesting experience anyway.

hmmm...I wonder if my local EBs received theirs...

might have to venture up to the mall to check it out.

How was Metroid??

Did it play similar to Metroid Prime on the cube?

If they did, it'd be pretty cool.

I forgot to try this but each display has 2 DS so I believe you should be able to play on LAN.

I can't believe people care about this. No one gets mad if you put some gameplay stuff in unrelated. Why be a nazi about handhelds? I don't even understand the change. It's like they're trying to force people to go into that forum. Now I'll get yelled at if I talk about handhelds in here... :rolleyes:

it's just kinda a pain that to look at the ds threads, I need to browse two forums.

Looks like it is time for me to get a GBA SP on the cheap when the prices drop. :D

Screw the DS for now, I just want to play Boktai after all these years. :(

That's how I look at it, but from a slightly different perspective. Now if I want to look at stuff unrelated to the Neo, I also need to look at the "handheld" forum. But since it looks here to stay now, I guess I'll shut up about it.

Maybe someday when the DS and PSP die down a little, we'll see another NGPC thread. I just dread the day when the News and Rumors becomes the 'home consoles' forum, where we get all our PS3 release date anticipation threads...

I've said it...I'm shutting up now.

They need a Brand New Neo Geo Handheld made
someday. We need 4 Buttions on it as well & has to be
like the GBA Handheld w/ a backlit screen to see and
can play your NGPC, plus New games as well too. :drool: :cool:

More Metal Slug ports and New Metal Slug games too. :kekeke: :cool:

I was up at Best Buy today hustling them, and saw they had their DS display out.

Looked really nice. The pictures you see on the web for the Metroid demo don't do it any justice. Its looks very smooth and clean on the DS display. Plus it has a nice, steady frame rate. Good stuff.


But, I dunno about the 4 face buttons. They seem kinda odd and a little bit small.

I take it you haven't seen the 'Capcom sells rights of Street Fighter to Capcom USA' thread. Actually, it's probably a judgement call.

Anyhow, I'll have to make time to stop by EB and try out the DS, although I wish they had something other than 3D Metroid to try. My interest in any of the 3D Metroids is extremely low.

If I was a Nintendo Rep, I would have NEVER put Metroid on display.

It sucks.

I almost cancelled my preorder after playing it.

Mario would have been better.

Something with color.

Although my expectations were high on the DS, I'm starting to have second thoughts.

About 3 people played the system and the bottom screen had light scratches on it already.

I tried wiping them off, but they were still there.

The screen is way too small.

The controls on Metroid suck.

Pixelation was painfully obvious if you shot into a wall you were standing in front of.

Look for mine on ebay Nov 23rd, unless Mario 64 gives me some sort of entertainment.

Will that make it better for you?

and you can get screen protectors to avoid the scratches.
