Thinking back to the remake of Resident Evil for Gamecube, I got to brainstorming about other great games that should be remade for the newer consoles. Anyone else have any good ideas? Here's some of mine:

R4: This game is screaming for a remake. It's in my top ten favorite games of all time, and definitely my favorite arcade style racer. It would be great if Namco would remake this game for today's consoles. Even a PS2 version would be great. Same amazing tracks, same kickin' tunes, same tight control, but a new graphical engine. I could die happy if this actually happened.

Power Stone 1/2: Both were great 4-player brawlers for the Dreamcast, yet neither one got a port to other new systems. My idea is to port both titles to the Xbox, with a minor graphical facelift, and Xbox Live play. Think about playing these two games online (which we were deprived of in the US) over Live with three other friends, wouldn't that kick ass?

I would absolutely LOVE a Ridge Racer Classics made for the XBox.
Built on the same premise as RR64, except you could pick whatever style of powerslides you want, ala OG RR, RRR, Rage, or Type4.
All the music and cars and courses from these games would all be present.
Built from the ground up on the XBox, with all the graphic splendor that implies, along with XBox Live support.

Excuse me, I've got a massive woody from all this next-gen Ridge chatter.
I'll be relieving myself to a Tera Patrick flick.

Wipeout XL.

With an alternate/additional version of the original soundtrack's music remixed by current artists.

That's actually a really good idea. I don't see why Namco couldn't make it work, they frequently re-use tracks and whatnot from old RR games. I am definitely looking forward to the PSP Ridge Racer game, assuming it's going to be something good and not a remake of RRV. Unfortunately, I don't see such a game ever coming to light. It would be too good to be true.

Un Squadron SNES

I always felt like that's what they were attempting with the Ace Combat series, minus Shin & Co.

How about some well-realized 2.5D while we're at it?
Gradius V PROVES you can do it with fucking style and all the old-school awesome gameplay. I'd still love a real Shinobi or Shadow Dancer follow-up.

Wipeout XL.

Don't bring me to tears, dude.
Sony never respected that franchise, and ripped Psygnosis a new one.
I'll always wonder what an XBox exclusive and Live-enabled Wipeout would be like.

It sucks that we've never gotten a true arcade port of this game. The Saturn version was average at best, too bad they couldn't at least release it in Japan. I'd definitely import. Great suggestion.

Well, Namco is remaking The Tower of Druaga, Sega remaked Out Run, and Midway remaked/is remaking Spy Hunter, Defender, and NARC, and there are modern-day remakes of Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Xevious, Q-bert, Frogger, Pong, Warlords, Combat, Missle Command, and Breakout, so...
How about a Virtua Racing remake? I'm happy that Sega is putting the Sega Ages remake in their upcoming Sega Classics collection, but 'cmon, some textures wouldn't hurt... :glee:

I'd love to see a remake of Kid Icarus. I would also like to see a remake of the entire Metal Slug series. ;)

But I do like that Ridge Racer remake idea Loopz, Rage Racer is still my favorite in the series (next to the 4, of course).

I have yet to play a remake that is worth it

WHAT? RE1 on GCN is incredible. The remakes of the old Mario games on GBA are also great. I can't wait to play the remade PSO games on the PS2, as well. There's many good remakes, IMHO.

I think a remake of SOR2 would make a pure killing on any platform.

My vote as well. Amazing game that got lost in the shadow of Metroid.

Not if you watched Captain N. :D
Darn Samus never showed up when you needed her--and what happens? Some kid gets absorbed into his Nintendo to team up with a GameBoy, a refugee from an 80s music vid, Simon Belmont, Kid Icarus and faces off against some of the rag-taggiest group of Video Game characters ever to defeat Mother Brain.

/me now wants a bowl of Nintendo cereal.

NES: Athena

SNES: Actraiser 2

Both simply because the controls could use some work. Might as well give them a facelift while you're at it (Actraiser 2 with some CPS2 quality graphics would have been nice... Athena would have looked great on the Neo)
