Well a quick way is to open my computer, and click it and then look at the details thing on the left (assuming you have XP). it should show you a chart that says total and free space.

You may have only partitioned 20 gig of a larger drive. What OS are you running? 2000/XP users go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Then use the Disk Management tool. This should show you how your hard disk is partitioned and what size it truely is.

With laptops you generally have to go with the manufacturer to get better hardware. Although I guess you could just ask em what hardware is available and look elsewhere.

Upgrading laptop hard drives is not an easy process and will require a lot of work.

Just an FYI.

yeah... and if you only have 2 memory slots and don't get the 1 gig chip, you generally cannot upgrade the internal chip without voiding the warranty :annoyed: IE they give you access to 1 slot, but not the other.

Laptops are great, but suck for upgrading...

You'll have to call the manufacturer and make sure that you can even upgrade the HD to a larger one. Some have special drivers...etc... that will not allowyou to upgrade past a certain gig (or the drivers cannot support beyond a certain amount of gigs).

You won't be able to upgrade the CPU, Graphics card...or anything else besides what you can do with the PCMCIA slots, memory, and hard drive.

I HAVE A MASSIVE 4 GIGS HD ON MY HOME PC.
GET IT! :)

All laptop hard drives are the same they just use a different caddy to fit into the machine. Swaping hard drives is rather easy. Besides all the tiny screws that you have to keep up with it's just plug and play. I guess bios could matter, but right now I think the biggest drive made is a 80gig 5400rpm or a 60gig 7200rpm(last time I checked).

Just get an external USB drive. They are awesome because then you can use it on your desktop or laptop or anywhere you need it.

that works.

i've got an older Dell Latitude Laptop with a 4GB HDD (if i'm remembering correctly). it's partitioned into two drives C drive and a virtual D. i picked up a SeaGate 120GB HDD and it's great for backing up anything and downloading videos and games.
