What is your first move/tactic when you start a round against an unknow ( human ) opponent ?

I usually Crouch imediatelly to in an anti-air counter-attack tactic.

I have seen some players taking the risk of being hit at the first jump, backjumping to their corner ( ultra defensive style meh ), standing awating for the other oppo to attack, etc..

I usually dash backwards to get some space open, start reading what
the opponent is trying to do.

I sway in back and forth and try to read what the opponent is doing, then I adjust accordingly (i.e. offensive: start blocking, defensive: find a way to bait them, etc.)

Hop back, I always hop back. Uh oh, now you know my tatics :p

No, seriously, though, I like to give myself some space between me and my opponent. Plus, I prefer some to have someone attack first, it gives me a chance to set up.

Always something different, whether or not I really agree with the probable safety of doing so. Pattern players get trapped easily.

I tend to play highly erratic in my style, with no ryhme or reason to why I'm playing the way I am. Sometimes I'll hop back and play all defence/counter, other times I'm all out blitz of offence. This way I avoid any pattern for someone to figure out.

Your avoidance of a pattern forms a pattern!

It really depends who you are using, what game, and what character you are fighting against. Knowing that, you can expect how the enemy may react or how to follow up that move.

I am into aggressive play, so I tend to perform a short quick uppercut, a sweep or a offensive jump high priority hit, kind of like Kyo's jumping dC.

I usually just stand there ... :emb:

But yeah, I'll usually do nothing and wait to see what the other guy's style is - I'll get pwned if I go in all aggressive and everything, but being overly defensive usually makes me vulnerable to throws of some sort. I try to strike a balance I guess.

Sometimes I like to just do a quick hop straight into the air. You can't really be punished for doing it, and you'll jump over a projectile should they throw one.

Depends on the chara. Sometimes I do a vertical jump + far B or D, sometimes I hop back, rush forward and hop back again, and sometimes I don't do anything at all and just wait for my opp. to strike forward.

I also like to test my opp. from time to time, say with a timed empty jump (w/o attack) that ends about half a chara length away in front of him, too far for any dp's to connect. If he still does a dp or any other useless (in that particular situation) move, tEh fun begins (for me, not for him)... ;)

Whenever I'm playing somebody new for the first time, I rush them. It's very risky, but it'll establish quickly what I must do to win the match. If I'm able to rush them down and put insane pressure on them and they can't handle it, then that's what I'll do. Like most people said above, they usually hop back or something to read their opponents. I get this a lot and it usually catches them off guard. Every once in a while I'll get somebody who starts off with an attack, but it's not often.

After I've established what kind of player they are (even if I lose), I'm pretty good at getting around their style of play, unless they're really good and mix it up well. Then I'm a lot more cautious.

depends on chara. if its yamazaki ill usually start with a snake fist (low or mid). if its somebody ive never faced ill rush them down (lie gohan said) if theyv learned their chara well and are really good ill adapt to teir style and finish em off.

That was favorite tactic back in the day when SF2 was the rave in the arcades. Alot of people I'd play against would do nothing but DP (Ken/Ryu) anytime you attempted to move or jump towards them.

Basically what I find myself doing at the start of a match. I'm more of a defensive oriented player constantly looking for the best way to bait and counterattack the opponent.

Heh, it's funny because if I'm Geese, I always expect this from a Yamazaki player, and the first thing I do is high counter. 99% of the time I catch them trying that :D

yes but with yamazaki facing geese it wouldn be too smart to do the snake fist. better do a low one or wait for the other chara to do something first. i play geese too so i know a high counter would seem at its place when starting bout against yamazaki. thats what i would do to if my litlle brothers picced yama. but during a match against somebody unknown idd still start with a high snake fist even against their geese, just too see how they react( do they know how my chara plays, so yes did they reply good?), after that ill see what ill do.

p.s. hey songohan did you allready download naruto 235, i couldnt log in to download. damn.... ill try it later to see if they fixed it up.
