HELP my power pack just went up in SMOKE !!!!

Hi

just got my neo geo aes from the US (jap system i think)

i connected the power pack upto a 1.6KW step down transformer. switched it on (not even switched the neo on) and smoke was pouring out the top !!

what on earth is wrong ?

1.6KW is overkill for the Neo. Why didn't you just get a 40-50W one?

i was told to get a 100W
and they were out of stock so i went elsewhere and got a 1600 one
i can use 30W or 16000W
anyway, surelly the higher the step down transformer is rated the better ? hence why this should be pplenty ?

so any ideas what im doing wrong ?

The system actually consumes no more than 10W so there's no point in getting a 1600W transformer...did you select 30W or 1600W?

i selected 1600 to be safe

my Power pack says this :

INPUT = AC 100V 50-60 Hz 19VA
OUTPUT = DC 10 V 1000mA

surelly selecting that it would be anything up to that would be fine it shouldnt drawing myore current it just means its safer ??
