About to install a fan I bought. Simple question. Do I want hot air being taken out of the system, or cool air being pumped in?

Either way should create the same air flow.
I'd suggest an intake, and put a dust cover over the intake - this should stop any natynedd going through it.

it should be stressed that you have to create an air flow, so besides a fan you also need air vents on the opposite side of the case (think of PC cases):

cool air----->fan---->stuff to be cooled---->vents---->hot air

or:

hot air<----fan<----stuff to be cooled<----vents<----cool air

A fan blowing air into (or out of) a completely closed case will not do.

Yeah, I've already got that covered. I'm gonna use the holes on the bottom where the speaker used to be for a vent. Locate the fan to a different spot.

fan

I work for a company that makes control panels and we fit fans if speed controls or thyristors are fitted.
we always suck the hot air out from the top of the panel and fit a vent on the bottom with a filter on for the inlet.....
hope that answers your question....

It worked out the way I hoped, the fan sits right under the power supply. Blows cold air in and then it shoots out the back bottom where the speaker used to be. Even installed a toggle switch near the jamma harness so I can turn it on and off as I like.
