Torrente was a Spanish comedy "police" movie by Santiago Segura. It was such a success in Spain, specially the second part, that they made a videogame of it. Now that game is coming to USA!

Anyway, you really need to be Spanish to understand what the movie is about, all the language, jokes, actors, cameos, etc. are of Spanish culture. I'm just wondering how are they going to translate it.

The videogame was fun because it featured the voice of Segura himself, it was fun to be "part of the movie", but if people in USA haven't seen it I don't know how will it work...

Has anybody in USA heard about Torrente?

There are a lot of Spanish speaking people in the US. Maybe that explains it?

It's one of the movies out of a batch of 55 DVDs I have inbound to Natorm H.Q. as we speak. I read a review about Torrente in FILM SHOCK Magazine sometime back and when I saw it was available I ordered it. This up comming week I'm taking the week off from work to watch about 75 flicks, mostly Asian stuff {Japan, Korea, Phillipines} and a lot of Euro Crime Noirs and slasher flicks. I believe it's the only comedy film I ordered... but now I'm wondering if I'll "Get It" since you mentioned it's something that only Spainish people would get??? ---Then again I laugh at all the British stuff, so maybe I'll be holding my sides watching this.

The movie is extremely fun, I'm sure you will laugh your ass off even if you don't catch some of the references to Spanish culture... Torrente is a extremely fascist ex-policeman that is now a private detective. For example there are references to the Spanish Dictator Franco, that dominated Spain for almost 40 years. Almost all the actors that are not just extras are people "famous" in Spain (lately, anybody who is in TV, no matter how stupid he is, becomes famous), and I guess you won't recognize them.

There's a lot of parodies of James Bond. I think of Torrente like the Spanish Austin Powers. There's also lots of big breasted chicks in topless in this movie, you'll love them. Watch the credits introduction too.

So does your DVD include English subtitles or something?

EDIT: Wait, I was talking about Torrente 2: Mision en Marbella, but maybe the one you've got is the first one, Torrente: El brazo tonto de la Ley... The second is more fun and crazy, but the first is good too.

I ordered #1 "El Brazo Tonto De La Ley". Heard it was funny. *My DVD player plays ALL REGIONS and it has Eng Subtitles {Soft Subs} on the disc. If I like #1 I will most certainly buy the sequel. Now I'm even more interested in this flick, now if only the UPS guy would get here with my DVDs.
