Yeah I dunno if she notices but I've been using it a lot lately and have seen this happen: I'll load a page and maybe three pictures will load. The whole page loads fine but it says it's loading pictures (in this case I'm on the posting page and I've waited like 3 minutes and it still says 76 items remaining) and nothing appears, not even partial pictures or download placeholders. I've tried boosting the temporary internet file storage sky-high to 1MB and gotten no change. Re-loading still won't give me the pictures downloading.

I have no f'kn clue what caused this, as about a week ago it wasn't doing this and I'm nothing spywareish or anything was downloaded to this computer to make it go all funky. Of course this is IE and no I'm not gonna force Mom to go firefox or anything (besides if it worked before it will again).

The sooner I get her on the 450mhz machine the better (we never had time to sit down and reinstall stuff and transfer it over).

Anyhow does anyone know what's causing this? I went on dslreports.com and our speed test is the same it always is (and like I said the page itself loads as fast as it usually does). How do I fix it?

Try cleaning up the hard drive, right click on it, there is a feature there. Or deleting temp/tempory internet files.

Try checking in the Internet Options, under the advanced tab in the mulimedia section. Check to make sure it's set to show images and all that crap.

Next, reinstall Internet Explorer 6.

If that doesn't work, I'll see what else I can find out.

My post was only in regards to Dan not wanting to change his Mom's browser. Even though they are all fundamentally the same, if I changed my Mom over to Firefox she'd likely shit and not know what to do. I'm sure you know how old people are.

spyware?
viruses
'the little tickbox turning off by itself'

all things I wish I dealt with daily.

just tell your mum she has to move to a safer browser.. if she complains, well, thats tough - its better than losing credit card details or being hacked or bogged down with garbage spyware? no?

a web browser is a web browser is a web browser at the end of the day

apart from some are a hella lot safer/less annoying than others.
