For those that might be interested, your local Gamestops and EBs should have gotten a few of these DVDs in for their pre-orders. While I'm normally not one to split hairs, these should have come in well before the game shipped but I just snagged myself one earlier today and I'm pleased as punch all the same we even got it.
The disc comes in a cardboard sleeve unlike the Japanese release that came in a standard DVD amaray case. Meh, no biggie, I need to find a Devil May Cry case at work and do some swapping so I can slap this in with my Gradius 5 game.
One thing I REALLY love about this disc is the History of Gradius segment where it chronologically lists all of the games in the series along with it's offshoots. One game that I was unaware of as being part of the series was Scramble but it was rather nice of them to include the Parodius series on the disc. Most of the games listed on the history have intros you can watch and all of them have footage videos of the games themselves. I would have liked it if they included stuff like shooters inspired by Gradius such as Axelay (one of my top 5 fave games ever), Twinbee (Pop N' Twinbee being by far the best one), and even stuff like Xexex and Gyruss.
I noticed that for years now I've been mispronouncing the actual word Gradius. I figured it was Gray-Dee-Us, but in one of the videos the guy says it as Grah-Di-Us. Meh
.
Anywho...if you're a Gradius fan or just a shooting fan in general, hit up your local Gamestops or EBs and ask for this disc. Just tell em you had it reserved at another store or something if they give you any lip about it
