Atari are releasing a system known as "flashback" this is a hybrid of the two 2600 and 7800 systems but a smaller replica version
This will come pre loaded wit games, so u just plug it into the TV and off u go..

comes with games such as Asteroids, pac man, Millipede etc. Also comes with an "unreleased" game called "sabatour"

This is due out in the US in time for Christmas with a price tag of $45

Also it will be released in Europe in Earlly 2005

I thought the Atari name was bought by Infogrames. If so, this would be a product from them that I wouldn't consider a comeback.

This thing is really a piece of shit. I wouldn't imagine any serious gamer is going to buy this thing. It comes with a measly 20 pre-loaded games, like those Jakk's plug n play joysticks you can buy at Walmart.

The controllers supplied with the Flashback are just like the original Atari 7800 joysticks...if you remember those they were horribly uncomfortable, there is nothing ergonomic about them. You will get hand cramps with extended play, I can tell you from experience.

I'm sure this is meant to be sold to people that really have no interest in gaming, but want to relive their old Atari experience...they may get a taste, but what a ripoff. And yes, Infogrames is a French company that bought the Atari name, now they are trying to cash in on the retro-gaming craze...so be aware, this is not, and never will be anything close to feeling like, or looking like the 'real' Atari that we all know and love....Infogrames Atari is a French company for cryin out loud, you actually think they are going to understand the needs of American gamers? hahahahaha....

Atari-Infogrames published Ikaruga in the US and in Europe. I think they deserve some respect for that alone (and not for their shitty lineup of licensed product software). I think with a username like GunstarHero you should be more than happy to agree with me on this one. :D

On topic, I could really care less about this thing. I will just bust out my Atari 2600 if I really want to play any games on it. It's free, and it's the real thing. How can you beat that?

Atari gets no respect from me.

2600 set the stage for videogames in the home
5200 got a little better but really was the same old shit
7800, see above

Atari Lynx... many new titles, courtesy of Epyx, but still saw some of the same old shit.
Atari Jaguar... see above, but with even more old shit.

That and countless of PC ports of old Atari games that those unprogressive shits don't ever relent on feeding us. How many versions of Missle Command, Asteroids, Centepede, and whatever are we gonna see anyway?

Atari, you suck! You better stick to distributing games because you are as creative as a block of granite. :blow_top:

I wish Nintendo would do some like this for the NES, and SNES, like that controller they released in asia. 80% of the Atari games are crap, or shit ports anyway, but I would like to have a Jaguar TV games controller though.
