I second that... {^looks up} THIRD THAT. But since we all know the drama that was caused when an un-named MOD allowed for my name change from MD20XX to Mercenary X99 which led to me having to nix the old account and start from zero with this current one, I doubt this request will be taken seriously. Personally I'd be happy if I could just be given the permanent rank of Ikari Warrior but just like this suggestion that too has a 1% chance out of 100 of ever happening.
... good suggestion though. *And I do miss the State Flags, I want to raise the Texas flag in place of the American flag personally.

I'm not requesting that the mods take the trouble to change our ranks for us, that's an asspain. There are hacks(sadly, also called mods lately, but in a different meaning) out there that allow users to change their own ranks as they like though. Nobody requests anything, we just punch in what we like.
Most such bboard hacks allow one to set a minimum required post count, I tihnk anywhere from 500-2000 would be appropriate based on the administrator's judgment. (though the latter amount might pain me!)
Unless there's a specific reason they don't like the vbulletin version of the hack, and I'm misunderstanding that from your post.

We could simply turn on the ability for users to determine their own rank, but that would kill the fun in climbing our extensive post ranking system. Plus, this ability would inevitably be abused, over and over. Not going to happen this year, sorry.

I think I should be put in charge of distributing the custom ranks, that way the privilege wouldn't be over-used/abused. Wopat's account is practically begging for the "Southern Peach" rank, and Kid Aphex would look pretty damn good with "Slow-Shipping Genius" for a title. I would keep the ranks "workplace appropriate" for the most part, and all would suit their bearers.

Exactly. This policy was discussed earlier and Bobak made a good point that people don't need to have power over their rank. It won't add to the site. You can always edit your signature and location if you feel the need to personalize more...
