Specifically relating to grocery items. Do you go out of your way to buy name-brand products or do you find the generic/storebrand goods to be an equally good substitute with the added bonus of costing less?

Usually I'll go with name brands, but last night I saw that the grocery store I shop at had a "2 for 1" deal on their brand of salsa. I bought 2 jars and I have to say, this is probably the best store-bought salsa I've ever tasted! That and the fact that it costs $1.00 less per jar than the cheapest name-brand variety.

So, discuss your buying habits.

Roughly half and half. Most of the can food are store brands but when it comes to the necessities like soda pop, cereal and frozen foods, I go for the name brands. I realy hate store brand soda pop

Other than Coca Cola, I buy just about everything "Generic". I don't really see the point in wasting money on stuff {90% of it anyhow} that's going to come out my ass in a 18 to 24 hour cycle. If I gotta' spend money of food, most sodas and shit, might as well be the cheaper stuff. ---One thing I don't get chincy with is Toilet Paper though, I ain't wipin' my ass with nothing less than 2-Ply Charmin, that generic stuff melts within your fecal matter. Besides, the money I save on buying "Store Brand/Generic" is money that goes towards buying more NEO or other Retro game system games.

As far as vegetables (canned and frozen) and other stuff like that that has a store brand name, they are cheaper and exactly the same product so I use those.

Other than that, its whatever is cheapest without going completely overboard on the quality (ever try the cheapest "toaster pastries" they sell? terrible terrible times).

Oh, and the steak sauce that the Dollar General sells > A1

the grocery store brands are often made by the same big name brands, just under what is called "private label"

yeah, I but the generic grocery label shit.

99% generic but sometimes if something is so cheap there is very little price difference between name brand i will get the expensive name brand just so i can be fancy.

also i put the name brand shit in the front of the cubbard and fridge. so people will look in and be like "oh shit real coke!?" "oh shit farmer john weiners in a can?!" "oh shit dial soap!?"

thats when i look over at the camera and smile and give a thumbs up. then once those people leave i walk over to the cubbard and slide over the farmer john weiners to reveal the farmer jon jar of pickles (notice the lack of H in joHn and the fact that they are pickles). thats when i wipe the sweat off of my brow, close the cubbard and rejoin the people that have just praised my selection of name brand goods.

generic > name brand

You usually get what you pay for. The best thing to do is read the ingredients and nutrition labels. Most of the name brand companies ride on their rep selling a NOW generic product.

I usually buy generic, whatever is cheaper, and is actually the same thing, and cheaper. In fact I prefer simple stuff than fancy things for eating.
