If you have no idea what I'm talking about head over to www.8bitweapon.com and check them out.

They make some of the coolest music ever with oldschool 8-bit consoles. If you're curious as to what it sounds like there are sound samples available for download and they've got CD's for sale right on the web page at a very reasonable price. I encourage people who like video game tunes to check them out.

this type of music is called 'Chip'. there aren't very many producers out there doing this style, but if you like it there's another style somewhat similiar to this called 'Retro' that you guys might be interested in checking out.

if all this sort of stuff does fancy you though then i'd recommend checking out artists like Dr Shingo, Ural 13 Diktators, Micromusic, DJ Gio MC-505, etc...
or to broaden it a bit more, here's some labels that have artists that do stuff like this occasionally: Frogman Records, Good Life Records, Lasergun Records, Muller Records, PocketGame.

I still think the best "chip" group I've heard is

8-bit Construction Set

Kaiju Big Battel used their tune "Dollar" really well in one of their music videos (they have full samples of "Dollar" and "Saucemaster").

I hear you man, I listened to those short samples over and over again until I received the "Official Bootleg CD" in the mail. When you sign up for the Fan Club you get that CD along with it and if you as me it's the best $10 I've spent in a while. BTW, SMB2 is awesome, too bad the link is broken.

Awesome man, I'd love to see them play live. I hope they tour a bit on the East Coast next year so I can catch a show.

As a big fan of 8-bit music for many many years, I always wanted to learn to make my own. What equipment do these guys use?

Right now my only source of making 8-bit music is my Famicom ROM of the shooter creator game "Dezaemon".

I honestly don't know much about how the music is made but it sure sounds great. You could always email 8 Bit Weapon on their web site and ask them, they might be able to give you some info.

I think that they just sold it via their web site... I grabbed a copy as soon as I heard it was out. It has some pretty good cover art too, with Samus and Dracula playing Nintendo while MegaMan watches over their shoulders with a bucket of chicken in his arms. :D Not sure if they have it on their site still, but if the have Wizards and Warriors up there still grab that it is great as well as the ones that have been mentioned. Really all of their stuff is great. I think that they are planning on releasing another studio album.
